Changing to an ND2 in a week or so, time to take off various bits to transfer after three and a half years on the car. The Super Street (which is a fantastic exhaust for the ND) scrubs up well
Sorry for hijacking this thread @IanH but I’m looking for a new back box and noticed you have a GWRSS.
I was looking at their website and was trying to understand the dyno graph on the second image:
What is before and what is after? Have you noticed a difference in how the car drives as a result?
I’m only looking for a back box and not a mid pipe (if that makes a difference)
It also says it is “adjustable”. What does this mean and how does it adjust?
Apologies for the questions - you can probably tell I’m a bit ignorant when it comes to this.
This is a good page: Miata MX5-ND 2016-2023 Exhausts | MX5 Performance Exhausts
Somewhere I have seen it suggested an extra 5 - 8bhp from this exhaust though can’t attribute that.
Performance gains were not an objective in buying it, the MX-5 is a momentum car and best spend is on suspension (at least a proper alignment) and good matching tyres.
It’s quite a bit lighter than the OEM (about 10lbs IIRC) so there’s some advantage there.
Maybe the engine revs a bit more freely with it on or maybe I give it more welly to enjoy the sound (which is sublime).
They aren’t cheap and they are good. I did out of curiosity try a Cobalt which is another popular choice and went back to the GWR quickly.
Adjustable is if you take the optional baffle which can change the sound profile, I leave it out.
It makes me grin, that’s all I ask of it
Thanks Ian. Thoughts on the Cobalt? They’re almost half the price of the GW, so I’ve been looking at them.
Silly question but how easy is the baffle to access to make an adjustment?
The Cobalt is a popular exhaust and gives a nice sound, more muted than the GWR though.
The baffle is held in place with a bolt and easy to change, important to keep the threads regularly lubricated (regular = once a year roughly).
