M missus owned a Toyota Yaris for 11 years and never even had to buy a light bulb for it, The guy who bought it. An Asian nearby has had it six more years and never spent a penny on it… my missus has since owned a Rav 4 for many many years. Not a penny spent on it other than servicing,
It had its catalytic converter stolen and she had to sell it with much regret !
Take care you guys. We live in a growing hostile world… Ray … Essex North Thames Chapter …
I had owned Nissan Primeras for years, 4 of them. They then fitted Renault engines in them and completely altered the styling, for me it was a no no!
I’d also owned Renaults previously, lets just say things kept falling off them, handbrake levers, clutch pedals, door handles, window winders (remember them) etc etc.
I know it was many years ago, i think a great deal has improved now, well my mate has a modern Renault, he loves it coming from a Toyota which was quite reliable.
The Company you mentioned didn’t build Lambo’s in 1985… But quite frankly The Lamborghini Countach was just a dream in kid’s minds, They were Actually awful to drive and awfully built from the owners point of view… But Iconic as can be seen in the picture ( below) of a Lamborghini Countach 5000’s Best regards mad Mc Adder ….
My family owned a Passat. I worked for Volksagen back 99 so got a 20% discount. Sold it earlier this year 132000 miles for £900. It was always serviced properly and had no rust unlike some of its younger models. I did have to have the ABS unit reconditioned last year which cost £250. It was the most reliable car my familys has owned and I sold because I had found an MX5. I was most surprised how many people wanted it as it was twenty three years old. The guy who bought it hated newer cars because of all the computerisation and screens.
Mine’s the Toledo, reading the reviews on it is uninspiring, probably boring infact. The poor ride quality, plasticky interior, uncomfortable seats etc etc, it didn’t really sell well although the taxi drivers loved the diesel models.
The 1.2TSi chain driven engine is a peach, it’s not that bad a drive either, smooth now I’ve ditched the awful Bridgestones for Kumhos. With a cavernous rear with the rear seats down I’ve made full use of that over the years. With loads of extras like navigation, climate, hill hold, it even came with a spare wheel, full interior mats when new.
I can’t see me changing it anytime soon either £30 tax, cheap insurance and around 40 mpg easily achieved just doing the shopping run.
Although I’m firmly in the petrol camp and my NC is here to stay, I have taken an interest in the classic Electric conversions. A “proper” mini would be the one for me
Revenue from motoring taxes will be replaced with ‘Road Pricing’. This has been the plan for years now and that’s what the motoring public have been asking for decades.
Yes, That too ! It’s already being tested for reaction. The M6 has a section that needs paying in order to use it ! So yes, I’m sure you are right, Just a few years away to be performed nation wide ! , There is serious talk going on at this very moment that will force people to pay to drive through a section of a road through Essex that skirts a beauty spot …. They are looking at every way that they can become Burglars of your wallet and purses… there is NO WAY That the Government can ( or will) lose so much fuel revenue. It’s one of their financial staple diets … just saying. But let’s be carful with this topic. The moderators might see it as a Political story…
Open top driving to my local pub. ‘ through Lovely winding lanes with John Denver on the disc Is quite good. Sitting in the Garden of the pub with a glass of Red Wine looking over the farm fields Is worth a smile Or two .
My friend has just sold a vintage Triumph Motorbike and promised to “ beer me up all week “ too, Ah. Life can be so good , So, Just unpluged the TV…
Just back from a few days staying with friends in Norway. Electric cars all over the place (due to massive sales tax manipulation) and they all have the tagging chip thing glued in the windscreen - linked directly to your bank account of course to drain it of your road pricing charges, ferry fares etc. CCTV allover the place in urban areas. Electricity cost escalating rapidly. Had a lift in a Tesla as well, seemed a bit of a dull car to me albeit with bonkers acceleration. I certainly don’t want to navigate through touch screen menus to switch on my windscreen wipers.
All seemed somewhat distopian and I fervently hope I can keep driving my old Eunos around with the roof down on sunny English days for many years yet. Especially as I read it takes about 100,000km before an EV is ‘winning’ on eco points compared to a car running on the 4*
I know my idea will be laughed at. But Looking at my old dynamo on my 1960s push bike why can’t this apply to an electric car ? Why can’t a dynamo keep the batteries topped up as the wheels turn around on a road trip… ? I’m ready to be ridiculed ! Surely a dynamo would produce some topping up electricity for the batteries ? Thus. extending its range !
Turning the dynamo uses energy. When braking or going downhill, a dynamo will charge a battery but charging while driving on level ground would use more energy than would be needed for propulsion.
If you can fix that, you have invented perpetual motion, solved global warming and will go down in history!
A perfectly good suggestion. I think a good way of dealing with global warming would be for everone to turn on their aircon and open their windows, job done. The only problem with your idea is that when you stop at traffic lights and the wheels aren’t turning, you’ll have no power to get started again.
Yes… point taken… BUT … It is inconceivable that in this day and age. Dynamos cannot be designed to re charge auxiliary batteries that then
Supplement the Main Battery system,( whilst at traffic lights etc ) , Maybe this is not TAKEN UP
because it would prevent exploitation of Hybrid systems and the rising cost of lucrative Electricity costs… etc…. If scientists sat down and worked out a way that Spelt the end of Electric dependency in vehicle. By designing some Very advanced “ self propelling “ recharging by Dynamos etc
The Government would tear its hair out in despair …. Im sure the system and technology is out there but the
Technology is prevented from being exploited… It’s all to do with £ Money my boy ! … That’s my opinion…
There is a bit of ‘regen’ when slowing/braking in EV’s… I guess that’s as close to the dynamo-effect that you’re thinking of; as per a previous post, energy can neither be created nor destroyed, only converted to other forms - chemical to electrical to kinetic and little bit in reverse as well.
I’m not fully convinced … I feel That there will be found a way in which a Battery powered vehicle can re generate its lost Electric output from an onboard system ! Thus becoming perpetually re energised …
Today, It might seem far fetched, but Science will find the way to achieve this,
Quite how a Government would deal with such a situation remains to
Be seen… Because Vehicle’s and their fuel source have become a very big part of the Tax Revenue… I doubt -therefore- That there would be any Financial Reward for anyone who works on such a Financially crippling project, Especially if the project started to look close to success …
