I see that dates and themes are announced for the excellent GBC’s and on June-04 is Soft Top Sunday ?? and tbought maybe if we move quick enough we could secure a small area for our 5’s in amongst the very expensive metal you see at that event!?
I hope to be at our West London meeting on Monday so maybe see if anyone is up for it, and possibly even coordinate with other area groups?!
I personally don’t know how this works yet within the Club, and also in fact how likely it is to get space at Goodwood anyway. Worse case it may be just an early run in convoy and park in the usual car park before heading in for a nice breakfast!
Keep an eye on the forum and I will speak to the guys at the local meeting this coming week and see how it works, and sure something will get posted again…
As far as I understand it you have to register your car with Goodwood, including a pic, and they will let you know nearer the time if you can park on the circuit; otherwise it’s the public car park.
We’ve been to GBC many times in the past, and soft top Sunday has always had a huge turnout, especially if it’s a sunny day
Didn’t make it there last year, so the process may have changed, but the last time we went it was first come, first served, in terms of getting a spot within the circuit. We’ve usually aimed to arrive by 07:30, which makes for an early start! More recently, Goodwood requested people pre-register, to help them get an idea of the numbers likely to attend, but they may have amended their procedures again since then. A quick look at their website should reveal all.
A quick update, from the Goodwood Breakfast Club website.
NEW FROM JUNE 2017
Breakfast Club is free to attend, but to make sure you are granted access please sign up for a free ticket ahead of each event. Following the hugely successful start to the year we will now be ticketing the event to manage the capacity of the Motor Circuit to ensure that all visitors have an enjoyable and safe day.
To show, or just to go?
Everyone can participate in the famous Goodwood Breakfast Club, whether or not they have a special car or bike to show. Remember, though, only vehicles with Breakfast Club Passes are allowed through the Motor Circuit main gates to form part of the ‘show’, otherwise as a spectator you’ll need to park over the road. If you have a car, please register it in advance.
To register you need to set up an account with Goodwood.
Not sure I can be bothered…
I’m pretty sure this will reduce the number of cars they get in the circuit (perhaps their aim???), especially for soft top Sunday, when many will wait to see what the weather is like on the day. Can’t see the point in just parking up in the public car park.
The point is to go and have a look at a load of nice cars, have some coffee and then enjoy the rest of your Sunday. They have had the preregistration for the circuit for at least the last year, and it should stop hundreds of the same car hogging the circuit (although it didn’t at the Supercar one).
The ticket is for pedestrian access to the circuit. Cars have always had to register to go on track. I think they had excess numbers of people last month and are trying to limit the number of people attending for safety purposes.
I understand the same as ‘Dipsticks’ view, in that the ‘free tickets’ are for the general pedestrian access, and the pre-reg for cars getting on the circuit as its always been. I was there last month at Supercar Sunday and it was totally packed and never seen the place as full, and really too full, so not surprised they have introduced tickets as the event is a victim of its own success… I cant go tomorrow unfortunately, but for those that go it will be better I reckon.
Lets hope there is not repeat of one scene I saw with a circa 5 year old climbing onto the bonnet of one of the Veyron’s there, camera in hand, to get a closer photo. Ouch!!!
ah, it must be more years ago since we went than I care to remember…
Back in the day when you could just turn up in a car on theme and drive into the circuit. We usually parked up in the paddock area - as we arrived very early Perhaps the registering process will remove the need to arrive by 7.30am.
Supercar Sunday is always heaving, we tried to go along as a group one year, but gave up due to the queues of traffic. And that was to join the public parking.
I shall pass on tomorrow, but will be better prepared for another time. Sadly, I am likely to be away for Sushi Sunday event.
The pre-registration has been in place for a number of years but has never been enforced. I’ve been going to Soft Top and Sushi Sunday for many years and never once have I registered and have always been parked in the paddock/on the track. I think with the now huge turn outs, in particularly for Supercar Sunday, has lead to Goodwood to enforce this rule.
