Gravityperformance Stainless backbox

  1. My model of MX-5 is: __Mk.3.5 2.0L Sport
  2. I’m based near: __Hull
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __Stainless back box

Anyone using a gravity performance back box?

What is it like for noise etc?

For £249 it’s worth a punt mate

I have one on my 2006 sport
Louder than stock but not silly.
No motorway drone.
If you watch out for their sales - it can be had for £179

EDIT - buy it through ebay and use code SHINE15 - you will only pay £212.49 and free delivery.

Bit more noise but no drone? That sounds good. I’ve an ILMotorsport with much the same attributes I paid much the same for. I’d have been gutted if I’d bought it new for over six hundred quid….

Thanks mate….Any chance of a video of it so I can hear it?

I can’t help on the video front, but I was behind Dean’s car for about 30 mins on a Club run the other month and it sounded good!

As said, a bit louder than stock and a slightly deeper tone. I’d be happy with one on an NC certainly.

Don’t have a video but I do have neighbours who seem to think they are the noise police.
They hate my motorbike even though it has a fully E marked exhaust on it.
So far there hasn’t been one squeek about the MX5 exhaust.

Got one fitted to my NC, can’t say I’ve noticed any real difference in the sound during normal driving although I suspect that’ll change when I get round to fitting the gravity performance de-cat pipe I’ve got sitting in the garage. It also looks nicer than the stock backbox.

They have just given up on you!
Trouble is the car starts on a digital choke set at 2k in my case.

Cheers mate :+1:

I started watching it last night and they sent me an offer

Bought using code for Order total

Noticed there was a video and a little review on another thread for the NC here:

Looks like you’ve already found that @easyrider - but for anyone else searching on this, later down the line :+1:

There is a serious point here. The high profile exhausts are now over £600. There is now something at £200ish that may produce the same preformance at a third of the price. It’s probably not as well made and may not last as long.but, if it produces the same result but for a shorter length of time that makes it a player?

I got a il Motorsport exhaust recently for beans. It’s beautifully produced and is worth the £600 retail price but it’s a lot heavier than the stock item and if I was buying new it would be tempting to take a punt at what is a third of the price?

Well that’s what I did…buy a stock one from MX5 city for £140 or spend 60 more on a stainless

I hope that works out. My NC already gets grief for being bloated. Adding a heavier than OEM exhaust is just adding fuel to the flames!

Out of interest was this a replacement for the original standard exhaust? It looks the same and is an excellent price. I’m not disappointed by the original silencer on my NC. I’ve got a posh IlMotorsport jobby that I swap out every now and again. I like it but it’s a bit noisy. Swapping between the two exhausts is easy so it’s quite a nice thing to do every now and again without spending more money😀

The Gravity box feels about the same weight at the std one ( not measured - just by feel when swapping )

Noise wise - I would class it as stock+
It is deeper than stock but not much louder - and you can hardly tell the difference on the motorway.

You notice it a little more with the top down and enjoying a good A/B road.

The ILMotorsport is noticeably heavier but very well constructed. I don’t think it makes any difference on the road . I have swapped between the two thrice now and it’s just more ( quite nice) noise rather than more performance.
If you like a nice looking rear-end, it’s quite an improvement on the standard.

Hi all
Was just about to ask about a back box myself, MX5 parts have their’s back in stock, are these worth a go, bit more expensive than gravity performance but are they any better ?.

I’m not sure but the wording suggests it could be a new line so no reviews?

Fwiw.
I also have the IL motorsports backbox & pretty much mirror @Beryl experience with it. It is VERY well made & definitely the slashed tips fit perfectly into the rear looks much better almost how OE should have been, to my eye at least.
The only thing to add is that I am also running a catless manifold & I very much like the deeper tone & associated burbles but that DOES make it a fair bit louder, especially with the roof down. I get a little bit of resonance at about 2.8k revs but apart from that very happy with it.
