Great British Car Journeys - CH4

Just switched this on.   In the beginning preview, they’re apparently going up the

Fosse Way, and through the West Midlands seat of the British car industry. Just seen them

driving what looks like an early 60’s Hillman Minx.  In two tone, green and cream.

Exact image of my family’s car  back then.

I remember it well.  Lovely plush bench seat in the front. Short throw gear lever , for the time.

Of all the cars that passed through my father’s hands from about 1959 thru to 1973…

Ford Escort ( van like thing ), the Hillman, Morris Minor 1000, Simca 1100…, the Hillman

was easily my favourite.

Thoroughly disgusted to see, last year, that after being long out of circulation, the registration

had resurfaced… on a Chelsea Tractor ( 2018 Black Range Rover ). Reg 810 SP

Mrs M and I set off to drive The Fosse Way a couple of months ago, as we were a bit time limited we drove to Leicester to start the journey south (more about Leicester to Lincoln later)
As we arrived in Leicester the heavens opened and for the first time ever we drove the ND on a wet road - we can confirm the hood is waterproof.
The followed the road as far as Tetbury, stopping off a various places on the way, where I’m afraid a good hotel with good food got in the way. The intention is to pick up the much harder section to find around and south of Bath early next year, Got the hotels lined up already.
I did some of the bit towards Lincoln a few weeks later, but partly in the dark, and not in the ND, something we will correct again next year.
I tried very hard to find a ‘Drivers guide to The Fosse Way’ but could only find bits, (anybody got any suggestions?)
I also missed the program, but if I can budge Mrs M from the ‘Strictly’ recordings I will watch it on catch up this week.

When I got my other car  the original plate had been sold to offset the cost of a large repair bill by one of the previous owners.

It too had resurfaced on modern vehicles (a BMW followed by a Range Rover from memory).

Ten years later (about 5-6 years ago it must be by now) and an idle look at the registrations for sale showed it was for sale.

Now it’s back on the car it belonged to .

So don’t give up hope, you might be able to rescue the plate one day - of course then you have to track down the Hillman and buy it

As to the program, I did manage to catch what I think was the second episode, felt it was the best one to watch since they were both back in the various filming locations.
