Great little restaurant

Went to mx5 parts Portsmouth today, left about lunchtime so looked for a pub or restaurant. About 10 minutes away is a cosy corner French style restaurant called " Kitsch.n.d’or" 37 Eldon st Southsea PO5 4BS.

we had a great meal two courses for £8.50 each ! We will definitely be going back. it reminded us of the best of the little restaurant meals we had in France when we lived there.

it seems they also do jazz nights, so we might look for a nice b&b or hotel nearby.

Ther web site is www.kitschndor.com

I have no affiliations with this establishment.

That sounds great, have made a note for next time in that area.

Earlier for my birth day my wife and I were in Birmingham and we found a very nice French Restaurant by chance. Only went in for a coffee, and ended up staying for a meal. When they found out it was my birthday I got spoilt. and when we got the bill, the beer wasn’t charged for.

The name was “Cafe Rouge” all I can remember was that it was near the Bull Ring.

I also have fond memories of France.

Mainly I eat where the Truckers eat, but remember late one evening it was after 10pm stopped at a bar and asked if they had any food, Where upon the Restaurant was opened and the owner cooked us a meal.

Hi Del, we could start a new thread on this topic.

I have always tried to avoid expensive motorway services and find trucker stops if I can.

yes we have good memories of France, we lived in the Creuse for 6 1/2 years.

Regards,

Bernard

 Hi Bernard,

I had exactly the same thoughts, We don’t like the English motorway services, and most times if our stop is for more than a call of nature and a coffee. We will reroute off the motorway and find a village pub or restaurant.

I travel several times a year in mainly France, Spain, Portugal and Italy, with a friend of mine.

We like to dine in the “Les Routiers” we find them very good value.

Haven’t traveled through Creuse so must get my friend to divert sometime.

Also notice you live in Gloucester, my daughter lives in Bristol so might see you sometime in passing.

Del

Yes Del, we live in Dursley, just off the M5. I am Cornish and Lorraine and I still have parents down there we see when we can…

Do I qualify to join the old gits clan .? I am 58.

  • Bernard.

The answer is yes providing that on occasions you can demonstrate to all of us here that you can be grumpy as old gits are and are able to have a good moan and groan, usually about something inconsequetial.

Have a read of the Old Gits thread and you might get some ideas lol

DEL

Hi Del,

did you get up to Blyton ?, guess not a bit far from you.

-Bernard

Isn’t Cafe Rouge part of a national chain which also includes Strada Italian restaurants ?  We have both cafe Rouge and Strada in Hitchin.  Strada is very good but have not used Cafe Rouge.

 Hi Bernard

No we didn’t get to Blyton, not that I’m not interested but our priorities lay in other directions.

We just had a week at Centreparcs in Suffolk, and met up with my son and family from N.Ireland, and My Daughter fom Bristol and my Brother inlaw and   Partner from Australia.

Also this coming week I’m off to my mates farm in France for 3 days, unfortunately not in the Mx5

Del.

  Hi Nick

I have since realised that Cafe Rouge is a national chain, but I han’t known about Strada

I will have to try at some time

Del

They both do lots of special/voucher offers including allowing you to exchange Tesco vouchers on line for four times their face value in Strada/Cafe Rouge vouchers.  Every quarter we roll in with £100 in Strada vouchers and have a very pleasant meal.

Forgot to mention on out last trip we stopped at :-

The white Horse at Woolstone north east of swindon   for the night

It was a 16th century Pub

Recommend the accomodation and their resaurant and food
