I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __grumbling whining rear end
My car has developed a noise between 60/70 road speed. It’s not engine speed related
No sign of leaks from diff or gearbox.
Wheel bearings aren’t hot.
No leaks from exhaust - local garage inspected on ramp
Any other areas I should be checking?
Its probably the diff, NC’s have had some issues with this. A google of MX5 NC diff noise will take you there.

Agree diff is most likely. Diff oil changes get overlooked a lot.
If it’s only apparent when the roof is up, it might be hood drain valves being jammed open. I’ve gone through troubleshooting a similar sound to work out it’s the drains on mine.

How did you close the flaps?
I haven’t yet, I have a whole thing to do in mid-Summer. It’s not so much difficult as hugely time consuming, from what I can tell.
I’m getting this kit on order:
Hood Drain Modification, MX5 Mk3. Genuine Mazda Parts Early Mk3 models suffered from easily blocked hood drains causing water to collect in the cabin, which Mazda later released a fix for. Well here it is! There are two different part
There are installation instructions in the description.

Thanks - I’ll investigate if that fits the PRHT.
