Half-Cover for MX5 ND + Modification

I bought a half-cover a couple of years ago from Custom Car Covers for Ginny, my ND2.

The cover is fine, although when I used it last winter when we were away, the roof had “sweated” and had turned green in places due to lack of ventilation.

This time, I’ve put three pool noodles across the top of the roof (longways windscreen to boot) and put the cover on.

There is now a very nice gap between the roof cover and the soft-top so hopefully there will be enough ventilation to stop any mold growing.

The only criticism of the cover is the “tongues” that have to be caught in the boot lid/doors. The boot lid ones are fine but at the front of the door and at the back by the door handle the tongues are very small and it’s a bit of a challenge to get them to stay in whilst you try and shut the door from a 1" gap.

I have one as well, no issues with algae as I use the car at weekends during winter. I don’t bother with the door tabs either !

I’d budget to replace it every 3-4 years (I’m on my second) as each time you take it off any folds in the thick material will weaken it. Eventually, you’ll get little pin ■■■■■ holes. (Haha , I just got sensored !)

I’ve also noticed a bit of rubbing on the screen surround, so ensure that everything is clean before using cover. I keep a waterless cleaner handy for just the touch points.

I have the same cover on my NC, far better product than any others that I bought which lasted about 12 months where I live, 200 metres + above sea level.
No problems at all after 3 years and I don’t fold it, I lay it flattish over carboard boxes
