Black Friday deal at Halfords Lifting kit £59 * Includes 1 2T Trolley Jack, 2 Axle Stands, 1 Wheel Wrench, 1 Car Creeper, 2 Folding Wheel Chocks. I have no experience of Halfords hydraulic jacks which is the main reason to buy it, but with the extras is it worth a punt?
I used Halfords gear before on various cars, does the job for most.
I used a 3T trolley jack from SGS however for working on my Merc , simply because Merc is a big lump.
Not sure which variant of 5 you have ?
I’ve an NC on coilovers and then needed low level trolley jack …2T , purchased from Halfords, just the job
It’s a good deal (price) however I would prefer to buy a low profile jack and 2 x axle stands probably separately.
I had a car creeper, absolutely useless for using on my MX-5, I can only just get under without the added height of a creeper. Because I’m a cheapskate I make wheel chocks out of timber offcuts.
Don’t forget that your MX5 owners club card will get you another 8% off those sale prices.
It’s the ND RF I have, used to do a lot of maintenance on my Westfield in the past in my father in laws garage and with his kit, he’s a Eunos Mk1 owner and sadly now in a hospice and the old Mk 1 is gathering dust.
I’ve not done spattering since I sold the westie 15 years ago, Time to get my hands dirty again
Never used a creeper Mick, probably a waste of money TBH
Ahh didn’t know about that, thanks for letting me know @CBRDEANO
No idea about their jacks bit I’ve got a Halfords socket set and I’m really pleased with the quality and the price.
I bought this very set from Halfords back in 2010 for £50 (RRP £60). I use all of it, especially the jack and the axle stands. Less so the car creeper. Good value as far as I’m concerned.
A few days ago I tried to use the mx5oc discount on an item already discounted for black friday and it didn’t work.
I got some Castrol Oil on Tuesday last week.
It was already 20% off in the sale
Card got me another 8% off
I have always went for 2 or 3 Ton trolley jack better having more heavy duty peace of mind and i can use on all my cars not just mx5 personally i am not a fan of Halfords
I bought one of these kits last week. Certainly a good price (down from £110 I think). Not opened it yet as the weather has been too rough to even contemplate doing any work outside on my NC!! Never used a trolley jack before but have received essential guidance.
Yes that’s my concern getting the right jacking point(s) for the ND, I’ll be asking on here, when weather warms up as front callipers in need of a cosmetic makeover.
The standard low profile jack is ok. The jack stands have too much gap between the stops for my liking. I bought four separately, and they are cheap and useful but ended up buying some extra ones that can be better fine tuned.
I’ve an irregular drive I work on my cars so you could get away with just the Halford stuff.
I would always use a heavier Trolley jack 2.5 or 3 ton so can use other cars not just mx5 i am not really a fan of Halfords gear can’t remember last time i bought anything from them sometimes you get what you pay for I would rather get pieces separately different brand but I know lots of people who are happy with Halfords stuff
