Best one for a budding mx5’er? I was looking at a cheapo set in Tesco to get started but these look like good bang for buck.

Cheers from Wales!

Yes you can get a bargain socket set by shopping around, but if I might offer a word of advice…
Ensure the sockets are forged - not cast - on any size above about 8mm. I’ve lost count of the number of cast sockets I’ve cracked over the years while trying to shift corroded nuts. And a better bet is a half-inch drive to accept a torque wrench.

I’d always get a set of swivel ratchet spaneers (one end ratchet - one end fixed in a given size) since you’ll be lucky to get a full socket on many of the MX5’s various fixings under the bonnet. You’ll use them far more than the sockets in my experience. Halfords had a very nice set on offer - 6mm to 20mm (IIRC) for not much money a couple of years ago. One of the best things I ever bought!

A set of Torx head socets (male and female) comes in very handy to…as well as the obvious hex heads etc.

Good luck…

Just to add, I bought a breaker bar and socket from Halfords, their professional range with a no quibble exchange if you break it.

I did break it (a bit naughty doing stuff I shouldn’t have tried with it) armed with just the broken bar, no receipt they changed it, no quibble.

Great answers - thanks! From the options listed is there any one in particular that might see through the needs for someone just starting out with the mechanical upkeep of one’s vehicle? :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ll double check if any are forged rather than cast, etc. (:
