Halfords Oil £12 4 litres

On offer Halfords Oil 4 litres all grades £12:- 5w/30, 5w/40, 10w/40

I’ve never used Halfords oil before but I change the oil & filter every 6 months.

The Mk2.5 is supercharged & does seem to darken the oil fairly quickly,

(not diesel black) so let’s hope the experiment works.

Reserved 4 litres fully synthetic 5w/40 for a Boxing Day pick up.

If you look at the Halfords site you will find the safety sheet for the oil is from Comma who were owned by Exxon Mobil up to a few years ago.

They are now owned by a billionaire with the holding company based in Bermuda.

Comma supply a large proportion of the motor trade and also distribute Mobil oil. They are a leading blender of engine oil.

You are aware there is no quantative data at all to suggest there is any reason to change your oil at 3 months old.

Why not get a free sample bottle from Blackstone labs and have a used oil analysis at the next change. Ony just over £25 with postage to the states and get a TBN done.

It will show that the oil is still in great nick and there is no need to change it never mind have it go through recycleing for no reason.

Hello Eddie

Thank you for the information re the Blackstone lab.  I think the reason I change the oil every 6 months

on the supercharged MX5 is purely on the say so advice from recognised “experts” in the forced induction

fraternity.  Not an Mx5, but the Mitsubushi Evo’s need plenty of oil changes, so maybe that’s where the

“experts” get their knowledge?

The Eunos 1.8 S special is naturally aspirated does not dirty its oil & gets changed annually, around 5k miles.

I’ve got some semi synthetic 10w/40 to collect for the Eunos as well.

I well remember Comma Oils, when back in the 70’s one Mike Thomas became MD… I wonder if Mike is

the bilionaire?
