Handbrake. light

  2. I’m based near: glasgow
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on:

Hi so the past few days my handbreak light has been on but the car has been driving fine.

I done a longer drive today about 45 mims and i noticed the driver side wheel was boiling. Noticed it walking past the car. The other 3 wheels were fine. Little heat as expected but nothing worrying.

So worked out iv think iv got a stuck caliper.
However and silly question hear the hand break dosent affect the front wheels dose it ?

Do i have 2 issues a sticky front caliper and there may be something up with the back breaks aswell.

Getting it booked in this week to fix the front driver side break. But aye the hand break lights confusing me.

It’s not just a handbrake light, it doubles as a general brake system malfunction warning light, and low brake fluid warning.

Low fluid level, the sensor will detect it and trigger the light.

That makes sence thank you!

Ill check the fluid first as thats an easy fix. Presumed that would be a different warning light. Thanks

The brake fluid reservoir has the warning sensor in, the light doubles up as the handbrake warning light. It doesn’t have to go much below the full marker to trigger the light. Sometimes just cornering can trigger in when below the full mark. Also the brake reservoir doubles as the clutch fluid reservoir.

Just to add, the caliper could be seizing and or slide pins, need a clean up and lube.
Maintenance is the key, many posts about seizing brakes. A regular service (annual strip/clean/lube) not a glance over of pads and discs by whoever once a year is good enough.

The light has been flicking on and off depending on me going up or down hill and iv not touched the break peddle. So low fluid is seeming like the issue.
This would affect all the breaks tho so im thinking its a bit of both. Will give them a full service now to be sure.
