Handsfree microphone

Hi all, the phone handsfree in my MK3 isn’t very good sound wise. At the moment its mounted on the centre consul just in front of the gearstick. Is this a poor place for it or could it possibly be a poor microphone? Would up on the A pillar somewhere give a clearer sound? If anyone has a photo of theirs I’d be interested to see it.

I’m happy to replace it but don’t want to spend a lot of money as I rarely get calls, I think I’ve had one in a year!

I think the stock one is mounted somewhere by or in the gauge cover.

I had some success clipping one inside the gauge cover, or putting it up on my sun visor, although the best quality was clipped to my hat (not ideal…)

I don’t have a photo on hand, but I’ll try to get one tomorrow!

I mounted mine to the underside of the instrument cover thingy ,my mic had a clip and a self adhesive pad option , great quality sound , not the best pic but should give an idea .

Never had a problem on 2 NC’s mounting it in a similar position to the pic above. Mine was stuck on the shroud behind the steering wheel. I stuck the bracket on that comes with the mic with some 3M tape.

I’d advise against sticking too high up, say up on the A pillar as you would probably get too much wind noise with the top down.

Thanks for the replies. I like the idea of fitting one by the instruments (seems an easy place to get to without stripping too much of the car apart). I have never really been happy with where I put it.

My microphone is similar to the one in MickAPs photo but I’m thinking of changing it for one of these as I think it would blend in better.

That is the type that arrived with my EONON Q04pro

Mounted on top of the steering column shroud
