hard cornering issue

I tend to agree with Gales.  I think the standard of driving has deteriorated over the years, which is odd, because the driving test is more difficult now, so the newcomers should be better.

The trouble is of course, that there are more of us on the road these days.  So the more drivers in general, then it naturally increases the risk of more bad drivers - more drivers who think they are Lewis Hamilton; more drivers who don’t know the width of their vehicle; more drivers who are unnecessarily hesitant or over cautious; more drivers likely to try unsafe manoeuvers (don’t get me going on U-Turns at mini roundabouts please !), more foreign drivers who perhaps have not been trained to such a high standard; and of course, as we are all living longer, more drivers who are, shall we say, passed their best !  All these factors go to make driving on Britain’s roads just that little more hazardous.

So why do we do it ?  Well, despite everything, it is still fun, especially, as for us on this forum, with something like an MX-5.

In addition… Mobile phone use at the wheel. Lack of consideration for other road users. Faster, safer, easier to drive cars which can give a false sense of security.

Of topic slightly but.

I’m still a courteous driver, I still abide by the two second rule, i never undertake, and I always indicate.

If i indvertantly get in the wrong lane at an unknown junction, i would rather commit and go around than cut someone up and risk a prang.

Travelling on the motorway on my daily commute, ive seen so many accidents or near misses because others have flouted these basic standards.

I’ve had my 5 do it a few times when driving quickly (within the legal limits Mr officer??)
I’ve also had my pajero do it which was a very butt tensing moment trust me having the rear end step out on a 7 seat 4x4 is not a pleasant experience ??

can I suggest for any of you who have not done your advanced driving test through the IAM then you seriously consider doing it.  It will really open your eyes to not only how bad all the other drivers are on the road but to how bad you are as well, and it will make you safer and a lot better able to cope with all the other idiots out there that we al come across on every drive!
