Hi ChrisMK3,
I can’t recommend a courier company, but what you need to protect your hardtop is a nice padded hardtop storage bag - see my advert on this forum in ‘parts for sale’?!!
Seriously though - if you have any companies local to you that specialise in transporting classic cars, it may be worth asking if they are likely be going to the same area where the hardtop is - as most specialist vehicle movers use a good quality covered trailer or transporter that normally has room for extra ‘spare’ parts to be carried safely too.
Just a thought.

The courier obviously matters but most places your item will be thrown, dropped and kicked about a bit.
The main thing is making sure it gets wrapped up well enough for the journey and as I think the rear window is glass? a lot of place won’t insure it for damages if it breaks.
A lot of places will also blame how it was wrapped up and that means they won’t pay out either, so really is down to packaging and getting the seller to take some pics of it wrapped up.
You need a door to door service where it is not cross loaded. As longrider suggests Shiply www.shiply.com you can specify almost anything you want and the prices are really good. if you can allow a little time somebody will have an empty van going your way. I have always had good results.
I would second using a motorcycle courier and I came across the guy I used to move my bike through shiply.
I would guarantee complete satisfaction and if you are interested I can send you his details.
Maybe have a look at pallet delivery as an option.
The item gets strapped to a pallet then fork lifted onto a racked lorry. It’s used often for engines.
