Hardtop head room

Does any one know if fitting the hardtop to the mx-5 provides any more head room than having the softtop up.? [:D]
Asking as me and a mate are planing on building a mk1 track car soon and he is 6ft 4" tall plus what ever a helmet adds when on the track, do think he will fit.

G’day mate, Welcome to the Forum

I just fit comfortably into my mates Mk1 with a hardtop fitted and I’m 6ft I think at 6’4" your mate will have a problem

I suppose it really depends whether he has long legs, and a shorter body, or visa versa, or a bit of both.

But, as Geoff says, I think it will be a bit of a struggle.

Helmets add a fair bit - probably more than you would think - although different helmets obviously have different designs at the top (in the form or air vents, air outlets, fins, comical ears etc.)

How tall are you in relation to him?
You could always look at taking the seat of the runners (or are you puting a racing seat in anyway?).

Im 6’3" and drove the Lemans all the way back from devon to reading with its hard top on when i bought it, I fitted ok without any discomfort. I think a crash helmet might be pushing it though.

Yes, planing on fitting a racing seat to give a bit more head room.
Looks like we are going to have to test the setup frist, and try nad find a really slim seat.
I’m 5ft 10" ish so a bit sorter.[au]
Thanks for the replys.[:D]

I am 6’ 2" but tall sitting down- OK - I have short legs [:$]

I tried both hard and soft top cars when I was looking and I would say the headroom is effectivley the same in both, so if your mate can get into a soft top with his helmet (all in the best possible taste) he will be fine with a hard top.

Slightly less with the hardtop on, My head touches the Hardtop, but not the hood
