Hardtop hoist

  1. My model of MX-5 is: MK2.5
I have built a hoisting system for my hardtop, not finished yet, have to make the harness to hold it during the summer. It did no cost much, less than £50 in materials. Now I can take if off and put it on without help.

It is finished now.

Why you need a hard top if you keep your car in a garage?

The car came with it and I protect the canvas top during the winter, and because I can! I have 2 hardtops, one black from a previous car, spoilt for choices! And I enjoy making things and see the results.

Yes, I had seen that, but I like to do it my own way. The Moss one does not include the harness to support to when is up hanging, so the weight is not taken solely by the pulley system, which I have not finished yet.

Not my idea, I just looked at this and make it to my own ‘taste’.

I got the pulley system from ebay for a tenner, but replaced the rope with a better one, it just happened that Lidl was selling last weeks braided ropes 70mtrs long for £6.99. I got the 6mm diammetre, up to 80kg load.

Only need the strap and the hooks to make the holding harness/slings, the wooden battens with the marine eye plates are already screwed on top of the rafters.

The harness supplied is good enough to leave it on. I used one for years. Just hoisted it to the roof then tied off the pulley rope
