I have just bought a 2004 Sport which I am very pleased with. However there are spots of rust in the usual places - inside of rear wheelarches and rear of sills. This was by far the best car I looked at in these areas - there were some very patchy 2003 and 2004 cars. Other than this the car is in excellent condition.
I approached my local Mazda dealer abouth the 6 year Rust Perforation Warranty which has a couple of months to run and was told that if I hadn’t had the bodywork checked annually by a Mazda dealer (which it hasn’t) then the warranty was invalid. Checking the warranty description it does state this. My question is has anyone made a succesful claim despite this annual bodywork inspection clause?
The thing is, the sill rusting would have started from the inside, so by the time you see it, the sill has already perforated. Annual inspections would not have picked up on that.
Thanks chaps. I think Mazda could quite easily wriggle out of a claim, unfortunately, because of the body inspections, even though as you quite rightly said the inspections wouldn’t actually have picked up on it.
The fact that no one has replied with a successful claim story probably means there haven’t been many success stories, or Mazda include a “gagging” clause when they do pay out
I bought my 2005 mx5 from a mazda approved garage. The car had rust coming through the arches but the salesman said it will be sorted when I make a claim on the anti perforation warrenty as the car had full dealer service history. Took it to their paintshop where they took photos and sent them to mazda. Mazda got back to them within 6 days telling them that the rust was due to paint surface corrosion which is not covered by anti perforation.
Thank you for sharing that. I assume your car is a Mk 2.5, that seems pretty harsh with a FMSH and body inspections. I guess this is Mazda policy on this well known issue, as otherwise the flood gates would be opened.
I think I’ll direct my efforts to getting the problem sorted as without the FMSH there is little point persuing it, I can’t get past the dealer.
