Heads up if you park the car nose down and find rear carpets wet

  1. My model of MX-5 is: __2006 NC Sport - soft top

I thought I had a nice dry car with no leaks until the recent downpour.
Then I found water inside.
Luckily the interior is still out of the car.

If you park the car facing down hill ( I have to because the drive slopes )
Depending on how steep the hill is - you may overcome the two drip trays angle and water can enter the car rather than flowing towards the drain tubes.

My temp fix has been to use gorilla tape to make a front lip on the trays so the water can’t flow forwards.

The red arrow points to the right side drip tray - there is one on the left too.

I think any slope and rain is a recipe for water ingress somewhere. Those trays really aren’t deep enough and should have been made with more of a funnel towards the drain tube.

UPDATE.
The fix works perfectly - all the run off water is now running in to the collection tray rather than off the front of the drip tray. No more water spilling in to the car footwells.
