Heated Rear Screen Cable Removal

Hi All,

How do I remove the 2 connectors for the heated rear screen on a Mk2.5? I’ve tried pulling them, which didn’t work. I noticed there’s a plastic section which can be pushed in, so tried depressing that while pulling on the connector. That didn’t work either.

i do not want to use too much force, but think I must be missing something simple here.

Be careful James - the spade connectors on the glass window can get damaged easily. If the spades are pulled on sufficiently, they can come unstuck from the glass.

These all work the same way - you have the spade connectors on the window and associated female connector on the loom side.

Yours has thumb tabs so those will need to be pressed in for removal - some others don’t.

Have you tried wiggling the loom connectors sideways to break any corrosion seal?

Just persevere making sure that the spade connectors are well supported and that the thumb tab is being pressed hard enough to allow the connector to come apart

Many thanks for the info. I’m definitely being careful here. Not helped by the previous owner pushing the connections flush to the screen, so I’ve had to carefully prise them away in order to get to the thumb tabs.

I haven’t attempted to move the connector side to side, but will try that today.

At least I now know the correct method. I just now need to get them off without breaking anything.

Obvious question is ‘Why?’ if the cable is on a soft top, unless you need to fit a new top, then there’s no need to disconnect the rear screen. On the other hand, if you have a hard top fitted, and wish to remove it in favour of the soft top, then as Rhino said, you must do this at the loom connector - NEVER try to disconnect at the screen, that is not possible. The connector is a pain in the derriere, (I’m first to admit that,) but it’s the only way to disconnect the cable. You just need to get the hang of it.
The coiled cord flex lead is long and flexible enough to allow normal operation of the soft top - Up or Down - so I don’t understand why you want to disconnect it?

He owns an 1995 Eunos and probably wanting to fit the MK2 roof onto it.

No problem other than the stub loom and main loom connector plug are different MK1 to MK2.

Other than that good advice Gerry - leave well alone:-)

In what seems a guessing game (why does it occur often these days?) That has to be a logical assumption, and yes, I did notice the '95 Eunos, but assumed he’d now bought a Mk2.5.

This evokes images of the OP either struggling in a scrapyard, or trying to wrestle the top off a scrapper elsewhere - - - another guess needed!

This being the case, I expect next request will be “How do I wire into a Mk1?”

Exactly this. I’ve got a softtop with a heated rear screen, which has got a Mk2.5 harness attached to it. Therefore I don’t really have a choice but to try and remove the spade connectors at the screen. The other option I have considered is to possibly cut the Mk2 wires, and attach female spade connectors to them, which in theory should allow me to plug the Mk1 wiring harness spade connectors into it.

All the other components required for HRW on the Mk1 are installed.
