Heated washer jets

I lent my son my car to go to a business meeting and in spite of highly concentrated washer fluid the jets were frozen for most of the day.

Has anyone fitted heated jets from another vehicle and if please would you be kind enough to share any good information you have. Such as which make etc.

 Thank you

Nick

Hi Nick, never actually retro fitted any to a car but did have them on a Vauxhall Carlton back in the day? They were more than just the washer jet though, they included the washer pipes which had a trace heater wire in them IIRC. Doesn’t sound like a massive job of it’s something you want to do? Just to say, on the Carlton, they were a brilliant feature!

A quick search found these; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HEATSHOT-HEATED-WINDSCREEN-WASHER-SYSTEM-LATEST-BRAND-NEW-OD-MODEL-/192294014626?_trksid=p2385738.m4383.l4275.c10

looks to be loads out there?

May well be talking nonsense and I have in the past but something in my memory says that on a really cold day even with the heating assistance you can still get the last little bit of the water column frozen where it exits the jet.

I think that was about -10C, so unusual in the UK but on the road to the Glenshee ski area one day that happened to me.

You want proper BMW screenwash  seriously! Buy in 5L from your local BMW parts dept or here from a BMW dealer trading on eBay

Undiluted, good to -63c,
2 parts to 1part water is good to -36c
1:1 good to -23c
1part to 2 parts water good to -12c
Make sure you drain your washer reservoir before using and don’t mix with other screenwash brands as it is known to gel and completely block the washer system if mixed… Again I’m being serious. Don’t mix! I flushed out my washer system with water before filling with it

Thank you for the replies. In the short term I’ m going with Moonshine’s advice of the BMW washer fluid and I’ll see how it goes. Good point about flushing out - thanks again.
I like the heater idea but am wary of the actual jets still being frozen.
To think that my son’s VW Golf GTI MkII has heated jets and it’s an old car - still a damn fine drive though.
As an aside I do remember that years ago people used to extend the washer pipe and wrap it around the heater supply pipe.
Thanks
Nick
