Heater Matrix (Core) Install Problems

Hello everyone,

Recently the heater started leaking in my Mk2 and so I set about replacing it with a secondhand one that I bought off good ol’ ebay.

I got the dash out today and everything has gone well so far (apart from breaking a pice of A beam trim, which made me curse I can tell you!).

The problem that I have is I cannot get the rubber pipes that connect to the heater matrix core pipes off (I have attached a pic of the offending pipes). I have tried everything that I can think of (screwdriver blade, mold-grips on the rubber - with tissue to protect the rubber, and WD40) but nothing will do it. I am tempted to cut them off, but might be creating another problem.

These are the pipes I am talking about:

What would you suggest I do?

Thanks,

James

I’d slice the pipes to remove them and buy new ones. If you end up crushing the copper pipes that they fit onto you’ll have problems sealing them again. The other end of the one that goes behind the cylinder head can be an arse to get to though.

Ahh, thanks for the advice  I cut them both off at the matrix this morning and even managed to reuse the hose nearest engine (No.1) as it is so long. Just gotts wait for the new one to arrive and all will be good

Thanks for the advice,

James
