Hi Mk2.5 with air con but it needs a re charge. The normal heater only blows hot air. with the dial on cold it’s hot and turn it to hot and it’s boiling hot. Car temp gauge stays firmly at 11 o’clock and the distribution dial seems to direct air correctly. Any one any ideas as never come across a heater that only blows hot…typical when the weather is the hottest it’s been for years heatr control valve? (where is it?) do they have a thermostat in the car cabin as i wouldnt expect one as it’s not climate control? As ever any help is appreciated.
Check that the Hot/Cold cable is actually moving the flap/section on the heater box itself.Follow the cable down .Move control over and back and see if its actually doing anything.
There is no cabin thermostat .only the engine one, and no heater valve as such. The hot water runs in to cabin constantly, its just closed off basically with flap in cabin.
As above so unless your car is fitted with proper air conditioning/climate control all your ventilating (heating) system will do is blow in air from the outside at whatever temperature that is.
I don’t even bother using my blower on the Mk3 (non aircon) set to cold in this weather, it’s like throwing more coal on the fire in an attempt to keep cool.
The oil pressure gauge is operated by an open or closed oil pressure switch so is a “dummy”. The water temperature gauge is based on a change in resistance of a temperature sensor in line with engine temperature increase and decrease.

I keep seeing this, but I struggle to believe it. The oil pressure gauge on my car behaves exactly as I’d expect - increasing pressure with increased engine speed and higher pressures when the engine is cold. It’s certainly more than a simple pressure/no pressure indication. My guess is an electrical pressure transmitter at the engine end.
This is going to sound crazy! I think the MK3 had a more intelligent “dummy”, if that’s possible, whereby it shows movement to make you think
it’s a real one. As long as there’s pressure it shows various readings based on engine revs, but still a basic replacement for a light? Roadster Robbie can probably explain better.
If you’re referring to your NC, then that gauge is set by the instrumeant cluster based on an oil pressure switch signal and engine speed and temperature readings from the PCM.
