Hello All, New Mazda MX-5 Mk2.5 Owner from Farnborough, Hampshire

Hello All,

Have just purchased a Mazda MX-5 1.8i S-VT Sport 2d (03). Only 49k on the clock and from what I can tell it has had some rust work done already

Just dropping in to say Hello as i have only recently created an account on the forum.

I do have one question, my car has a 5-speed gearbox, but everywhere I have read says this particular model should have a 6 speed?

Cheers

Can’t answer the gearbox question, but welcome to the Forum.

Have you thought about joining the Owners Club?

Pop along to one of our meetings to meet the South Central crowd.

Our next gathering is a lunch at The Foresters, Kirdford at 1pm Sunday 26th November

On the same day some of the men attend White Lion Antiques Classic Car Show in the morning (8am - 12 noon)

On Thursday 7th December we will be at The Woopack, Elstead from 8pm.

Hope to see you at one of the meetings.

We’re a friendly bunch!!

Hello and welcome.

Hi
Ref your sport mark 2,i had a 2002 model which had a six speed gearbox, are you really sure it is a sport model, because they did other trimmed up models similar, but the sport had slip diff, and def six speed box, little spats in front of rear wings, obv leather,it was a great car with higher tuned engine and went like stink.

Hi

I too have an '03 1.8 mk 2.5 s-vt sport that I bought back in June.

It has the 6 speed, LSD, Bilsteins, and did have the 16" wheels till I replaced them with 15’s.

Dough nut underestimate these cars.

Hello and welcome to miles of fun, whether 5 or 6 speed

Bienvenue

2017 : https://youtu.be/nqY8boaMdRs

2018 : https://sites.google.com/site/mx5mondrian/home/2018

with 5 or 6 speeds come with us in Normandy next year, it’s the same mileage

Welcome

In addition, the 2.5 Sport models had a big brake package, discs 270mm front and 276mm rear.

Easier to check than looking inside the diff, to see if it’s an LSD

Hi and welcome on board…

Hello All,

Thanks for the warm welcome.

Update on the gearbox: When I posted my initial message I had only test driven my MX-5 on small roads, and was told by the dealer it was a 5 speed, clearly doesn’t know what hes talking about as I dropped it into 6th on my commute this morning :).

I did wonder if you had a 5 speed knob (so to speak) and a 6 speed box.  Perhaps your knob has no markings at all?

That’s probably a good thing…
