Hello
I live in Tenbury and just bought an NB 2004, I’m keeping an eye on the Area group and once I’ve got the car serviced and fixed a few things I might venture to a meeting.
I have never had an open top car before and I got a couple of (quite silly) questions
- I got up to about 60 on the dual carriageway and didn’t lose my baseball cap, I am 5 10 ish - is there a max speed before I need to switch to a beanie?
- With all the wind noise isn’t it better to just wear headphones?
- I quite like the idea of bringing my basset (Boris) out for a drive in the passenger seat, I got a harness for him, can you buy an attachment or something for the passenger area to give a dog a flat surface / better area? I think he would like it.
- Is there a secret sign or do we wave or nod at at each other like motorcyclists, other gestures are available

- Should I get a club sticker or keep it stealthy until my car looks in better nick?
I’m the guy in the (quite) rusty titanium grey NB 2004, give me a wave
Chunkers (Jim)
Regarding baseball caps, I am 6’ 1’’ and with the roof down my head is slightly taller than the top of the windscreen and I have not lost a cap yet, briefly touched the magic ton on the autobahn in Germany a couple times, though I have lost several pairs of reading spectacles which I have forgotten were balanced precariously on said caps. I detest headphones and personally, possibly as a result of being an ex blue light driver, I think drivers should be discouraged from wearing them at the wheel in the same way as they are discouraged from using mobile phones. The sound of the wind for me is all part of the fun, I might be slightly deaf as a result of excessive blue light drives . Sorry I can’t help with dog accessories 5 drivers often give each other a wave generally regardless of NA/NB/NC or ND vintage. At the beginning of the year there is usually a sticker inserted into the magazine. Wishing you many more smiles per mile.

Hi Jim, welcome aboard.
The only rule is “there are no rules”. Do what makes you happy.
The Vulcan “live long and prosper” wave
is preferred……just teasing, any wave will do
As for the condition of your car, nothing to be embarrassed or shy about. Just get stuck in with the club meets. Lots of helpful folk willing to share their knowledge. The important thing is you’re with a group of like minded folk enjoying their cars to the full.
I sometimes put ear buds in for long, motorway top down runs because my exhaust drones and I don’t have any ICE fitted.
As for hats, as a nude nut I don’t trust a cap to stay stuck to the slippery surface too much above 60
Enjoy your MX-5 to the full and feel free to share your adventures/mods/anything with us all.
Cheers,
Guy

Thanks, yes I am in that one now. I got some work to do on the car but hopefully will at least have it on the road in a week or so
I’m 6’2" and I find a baseball cap is essential on sunny days (remember those?) and the sun visor would totally block my field of vision.
I pass through Tetbury twice a week or so heading down to Bath (there and back) to do grandparenting duties. You’ll get a wave from me if I see you.
