Hello I’m a potential new owner and would like to know what the common things to watch out for on an ND 2.0 GT Sport Tech car, soft top might be?
I’ve watched the videos on the hood drain being blocked…I intend to check for soggy carpets and under the plastic VIN cover, if I can find it…inside by the door I think
anything else to watch for - hood rubbing on the roll bars maybe?
I’m looking at a car AK20OGC tomorrow anyone know the car ?
Anyone on here owned this?
The goal is to have reasonably sensible fun car for touring holidays that my wife and I can enjoy
I’m curious to know if the edition 30 year cars are worth the seeming extra cost?
There is another car I’d like to look at but this seems to have failed an MOT with worn rear bushes and discs, odd on a 35k mile car, so I wondered if the owner had been a bit of a drift king…
I’m coming to the MX5 world from many years of Elise ownership, which I have loved, but I want something different and, er more practical and reliable
Thanks in advance for any inputs
Welcome along.
The bushes (spherical bearings) are repairable for a few (low) hundred pounds. There has been a design change to the seals on later items. Mazda will want to replace the whole hub at mega bucks however no need.
Discs and pads are consumables so rears at 35K doesn’t seem excessive.
The 30ae is nice if you like orange and comes with really nice wheels and recaro seats, it’s a desirable edition though some asking prices can be (in my opinion) a bit excessive.
All the best with your search.
thanks Ian
The orange I like, but it’s not just my choice…lol
The other car is in that rather nice Mazda red
I’m trying not to think about mods…
It’s our car not just my toy which the Elise was
I hope to tour in Europe and make it to the top of Shetland and have some fun together and see “stuff” together and enjoy the experience of driving along the way
Cheers
From when I went looking at ND’s with a mate :
Look very carefully at the front edge of the soft top where it can touch the roll hoops when down.
I was shocked at how many we saw where the material was very thin or had worn through.
Ah thanks , I’ll have a good look. I’d heard there was a mod the dealers can do with spacers on the roll bar mounting that move them forward a couple of essential mm s
True?
There seems to be two ways to fix it.
The aftermarket wedges - these keep the roof appx 4mm away from the hoops.
The dealer fix - I believe involves putting spacers in.
Or, very controversially, you lower it from outside before you get in the car. If you do it as per the hand book it does not touch the hoops. Both our cars were ‘trained’ from new and on the odd occasion when we lower it from inside it clears the hoops.
That’s what I do and no great hardship. The gap is small on mine but no sign of rubbing.
