helmets... open face or full face?

hey everyone , i’m doing a trackday at Keevil in November and i’m gonna go buy a helmet however I wanted to hear from a few that have done a track day to find which would be better for a noob. . I have never been a biker just done the usual stuff, mopeds on hols and go-karting etc. Also there are alot of helmets that have the sun visor built in that just slide down, are they any good or is it better to just use your sunny’s?

I started off with a full-face helmet (see my Avatar), but now have an open face helmet which I prefer.

But, in the end, it’s down to personal preference.

unless you are going to go into motor racing, I would go for an open face its just so much easier

I got both, prefer open face…

I prefer a full face, better protection in a big bump and keeps the wasps out (when you remember to put the visor down…)

A full face gives you more options.

You cant blag a pass lap in a x bow / atom or any open (non screened) car with a open faced helmet.

Yes talking to a passenger is a little easier but i just brought a £5.00 motobike comunicator to talk to the passenger.

more often im in the passenger seat talking to another driver though!!

Id go full faced. cost is similar but whatever your choice make sure you get a very good fit.

cheers for all the help

Depends how comitted you want to be.

As an ex biker for 30 years I always went for the type of bike I was riding (stupid looking back on it now). When I had real quick crutch rockets I had a full face, when I had a Triumph Bonnie and a Harley I had open face 'cos that was cool for that type of bike.

As already mentioned it is your choice but I would consider what type of trackday you intend to have. If you want to have a leasurly drive around for the day talking to your passenger, or balls out going for it, I’d still go for a full face. The level of protection and the better fit is well worth it if (god forbid) should the inevitable happen and we all know what little protection we have in our cars unless we all go for the full roll cage and side bars, go full face. How much do you value your chin.

Happy and a safe trackday

Best Regards

Simon

I raced motorbikes for ten years full face is definately best

Hedtec do a full face that you can remove the visor and fit an Moto-X style peak to, means you get (almost) the best of both worlds.

I have a full face (helmet, that is). It’s an Arai, but only ever used it around the house Embarassed …as not had the opportunity to use it on a track day yet Sad

Only thing that concerns me is whether i’ll feel claustrophobic when i do…?!! {#emotions_dlg.indif}

Also, the Stig wears a full face so… Wink Cool
