A tale of woe!
2006 NC with Bose
I had a problem with one of the stock door speakers and after a lot of searching found a2ohm 8 inch speaker in the states – so ordered, the realized (had it pointed out) that the£89 price was for one – could not cancel the first order so had to buy another.
So they have arrived and time to begin the expensive experiment……. Or so I thought!
My Bose headunit has packed up – lights up with the time but will not turn on, fuses and connections checked but nothing.
I am now thinking headunit swap to a modern carplay unit but have a few questions for the knowledgeable ones here.
- Will my 2ohm speakers work with a standard modern headunit?
- If not what are a plug & play replacement (I assume they have to be 8 inch)
- Can I just bypass the amp and run straight from the head unit?
Thanks in advance –Admin edit
You can get all the kit to change to an aftermarket head unit and keep your Bose system intact. Dynamic Sounds online is the go to place for all the bits including the head unit. Give them a call if unsure of what you need but they do the whole kits for Bose or none Bose NC’s. Just make sure if you order online you get the pre 2009 kit for Bose.
Providing your Bose system is working speakers/amp ok you’ll get a far better sound from an aftermarket head unit.
Incidentally there is a repair service offered for Bose systems, it was posted up on the forum a while ago. Send your speaker, amp or whatever for repair, not sure on head units though.
If you have the budget I’d go with a new head unit much better than the limited OEM offering and much more choice to play music, DAB radio, navigation, reverse camera etc if that’s what you want.
Thanks for the reply but the one of the speakers is shot, going to try 2ohm speakers with new head unit and BOSE amp.
Probably struggle to get the non Bose speakers to work in the car. Maybe someone more knowledgeable can advise.?
you could look into breakers or people on facey that selling bits off their crashed nc and you may get lucky in finding one - i went over and did exactly that last week (got a spare cluster that I wanted to experiment and some bits - including all bose door speakers for a mate of mine…
however imho and if it was me it be quicker to bite the bullet and change everything to a new unit.
2 ohm speakers with modern head unit… My pioneer manual says no. Other brands may be ok.
Focal isu200 (do check model number - my own bosectomy story is on here somewhere) at around £150 a pair are direct swaps. These do work with the bose amp, but swapping to a compact pioneer amp (about £100) is a bargain upgrade.
I have a working Bose head unit and Amp I took out of my PRHT, but on the head unit the multi play CD is not working. It is jammed with CDs in it. You can have it for £25 plus postage if you want to try to make one good unit out of the two of them.
My honest recommendation would be to do the Bosectomy, maybe sell your new speakers on eBay - you might be lucky and get back what you paid. Set a reserve or high enough start price to avoid a mugging.
