Hi, i am struggling to connect a phone using Android Auto.
i have replaced a 5 year old Samsung phone with a Pixel 7a.
My Samsung connected to the Mazda and to my other car (Ford with Sync3) using both Bluetooth and Android Auto.
My new phone connects to the Ford with Bluetooth and Android Auto and connects to the Mazda with Bluetooth. Its does NOT connect to the Mazda using Android Auto.
When i try to set up the Mazda on the AA app i get as far as the screen that says “connect USB cable to start” - but when i connect it nothing happens.
Im using the same cables that allow my old samsung phone to connect to the Mazda using AA and allow my new Pixel phone to connect to the Ford using AA.
The old phone connects to the Mazda and the new phone connects to the Ford - so individually the phone and the Mazda seem to be OK . I dont understand why the new phone wont connect to the Mazda. This leaves the cables - but again the cables work with the old phone and with the Ford.
Does anyone know what is wrong or what i am doing wrong ?
Does your car have Android auto fitted? If you go into the apps menu in the infotainment display can you see Android Auto and Apple carplay in the list?
Is the Mazda still expecting to talk AA with the old Samsung?
OR is the Pixel only prepared to talk with one AA installed device, assuming the Ford was first to be connected.
Try clearing the AA’s phone preferences in the Mazda and let AA look for the new phone.
And maybe the same trick in the Pixel.
I’ve had this kind of “security” problem with other phones trying to link, but not tried them with car devices however. And then of course what phone is actually secure?
yes - ive used AA previously with a different phone
When the engine is running, is the Android auto option ticked in that menu. I accidently unticked mine the other day and I couldn’t connect?
I have a Pixel 7 phone and haven’t had any issues connecting.
Hi Richard,
I dont think i can change any settings in the car because Android Auto isnt select-able until i plug in a phone that the car is happy with. Its ‘greyed-out’ in Apps and the Settings screens on the Mazda .
The bluetooth is configured to connect automatically with the new Pixel phone.
I have tried it with the phone cleared of the Ford details
I could clear the the Samsungs Bluetooth details from the Mazda
Engine running or not doesnt seem to make a difference .
I found advice some where to reset the Mazda simultaneously pressing Nav,Return,Home. This didnt help.
I read other advice to select Factory Reset. - I couldnt do this because it is greyed-out in the menu
One last thing about settings, some head-units want the “Parking Brake” applied before they let you fiddle with detailed settings!
So you cannot be distracted on the move…
Is the infotainment firmware up to date?
yes i read that some where and i tried it hand brake on and off… and engine on and off too
Hi BlueAgave, thats a good call. How do i check ?
I just double checked and I had remembered it wrong. The option under applications isn’t changable, The option to check is under Settings > Devices, and the tick box sometimes takes a few seconds to appear with the phone connected and the engine on.
turns out i needed a different cable !
