I just need some guidance on moving the MOT due date for my MX-5.
I purchased the car brand new and collected it from the dealership in the last week of March 2023.
The V11 tax reminder states that the car needs its first mot from the 31/03/2026, this is what I expected but-
I want to move the MOT date to the end of April to avoid the snow and ice in the Peak District where I live.
I have the mot booked for 24 April this year, the car will remain in my garage until I drive it to the MOT so no illegal driving.
Doing the MOT in April- does this mean that the car will not need its mot re doing until April of next year or will they backdate this years to March?

The new MOT date will be the date you have the MOT done. You can NOT back date an MOT but you can have it done a little early and have the date of the MOT the same as the renewal date.

If you have the MOT on the 24th April 2026 it won’t be required until the 24th April 2027.
As above you can’t back date it.
You can have it done a “Month” early minus a day to keep the same date in April (24th).
Say if the weather is good in March you can have it done on the 25th March onwards to keep the 24th April anniversary.
You can also drive directly to the MOT station and directly home afterwards without a current VED. You will have to have a confirmed appointment at the MOT station though, you can’t just rock up on the off chance they will carry out the test!
