- My model of MX-5 is: ND
- I’m based near: Exeter
- I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: as above
Hi
My car was parked outside my house. In a 36 hour period a seagull left it’s deposit on the plastic nose cone near the Mazda badge.
I washed it of using just water as soon as I realised it was there.
The car was recoated by the Mazda dealer with a paint protection before I picked it up three months ago.
The paint itself seems completely un damaged. It seems that the clear coat over the paint is now dull in the shape of the offending deposit.
I’m not sure how to deal with it so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I’m a complete novice at this.
Regards
Clive
3M “Perfect it” 06068 ultra fine polish will take care of this issue for you.
Bill S.
I’d get advice from the dealer who applied the paint protection product.
Thank you so much for your response.
I have spoken with the main dealer who put me onto the Safeguard people and they are now dealing with this under the warranty.
Just waiting for the body shop to contact me
Kind regards
Clive

As the retired bodyshop owner (who did such repairs for many high end dealers selling that, or similar “add on” products), and if you do a little google sleuthing, you’ll find that the “Safeguard” is nothing more than a wax coating applied by the dealership at a cost that is painful to those who did not do their homework first. In this case, they will not recoat the area with anything more than what I posted above, and maybe another 3M finish product (more than likely Finesse it-final polish, part number 81235) to bring back the shine for the area affected by the untimely incontinent fowl. Safeguard is great at selling their product line, as are the dealers, as it cost them 30 pounds, (1 hour or less of labor to wax the car) and they typically sell it for 200+ pounds, with 25% going to the selling sales person at the dealership as a commission.
Bill
PS: Do a search for Safeguard, they have a positive rating, but their reviews are not that flattering.
