Here we go again - Tyre Pressures

I took delivery of a very well cared for low mileage 2017 ND Arctic a few days ago from a local Mazda dealership. Full main dealer service history by the original suppling Mazda dealer. The car has 12 months Mazda used Approved Warranty.

I had new Kumho tyres fitted all round prior to delivery, when driving home I noticed the handling was very wayward. I checked the tyre pressures early this morning with the car in the garage and cold tyres.

Each tyre had a different pressure ranging from 33psi to 38psi, not 29psi as specified by Mazda. Took it out for a test drive after setting the correct pressures and the handling has been transformed.

Why don’t they check tyre pressures prior to delivery. I have also experienced the same situation with a brand new Honda and Toyota !!

Next task is to get a full alignment check…but not at the Mazda dealership :joy: just need to find a competent company to do the job in the Peterborough area.

When I got mine I brought with me a pressure gauge pen. The ND I was there for was in the showroom and they had to start moving everything around for me to have a test drive (which they didn’t want to give me). I got out the gauge pen and adjusted one. The sales guy asked what I was doing (sarcastically) and I said it usually is too hard for the specially trained technicians to ensure a car’s tyre pressures are correct. He disagreed (sarcastically), so I said, okay, let’s see. After each tyre I would show him the gauge personally which saw all 4 out and all 4 different. One over 40 if I recall. I didn’t receive an apology
I think me getting on the floor and using a small mirror I’d brought to see if the chassis shipping bungs were inserted, had tipped him over the edge earlier lol

Because it’s too much like hard work.

Congrats on the purchase - pleased to hear you found one you’re happy with :+1:

As for the tyre pressure issue, it’s not uncommon as you’ll know! I’d feed this back to the dealer and ask for a copy of the “Multi point vehicle inspection” that Mazda approved vehicles have to go through, prior to customer handover. Which would show a checkpoint for tyre pressures.

See what they say…

Yes, think I may do that. I’ve had a few MX5’s from this dealership over the years and they have always been ok.

I think what maybe confused the issue is I decided to have new tyres fitted after their muti point inspection. However the dealership fitted the tyres so should have set the tyre pressures correctly.

Also I managed to get a bit of a deal on the tyres, I paid for two and the dealership paid for two. The car originally had some new ditch finders fitted to get it through the MOT. I refused to buy the car with those tyres fitted.

Good move :+1: :white_check_mark:

Perfect. I have one and I don’t think it has been improved upon, which is why I still have it after 8 years.

Get it rust protected if it isn’t already and enjoy it.

Ours has just taken us round Ireland. Now on 36,000 miles.

Excellent :+1: :+1:

Had a mot done on a Mercedes A Class and asked them to swap the wheels diagonally at same time.
Car didn’t feel the same. Checked the pressures to find that they hadn’t. So the front tyres had the back tyres pressure and vice versus: thanks ATS!

But to do otherwise would take effort.
