Earlier this year I decided to build an MX-5 based kitcar, so duly went out and bought an MOT failure MX-5. But when I got it home I started to remember my youth when I had a Mk1 and started to hanker for one again.
Initially I was going to weld it up, but having started to strip it down I soon came to the conclusion it was too far gone. So today I picked up a 1991 Eunos, which is so rust free it’s unbelievable. It needs a new roof, the wheels are really scabby, and front bumper is a mess.
The red one is giving up it’s nearly new, with glass screen, roof, along with it’s wheels, and I’ve got a bumper to collect tomorrow. I’ll swap the leather interior into it as well. Then a quick service and it’s ready to use.
The red one will live on, but only it’s running gear will survive as that will still be going into a kitcar.

I’ve made a start today. Decided the priority job was the roof.
This is how it looked this morning…

And this is how it was by lunchtime ![]()

Really pleased with how easy it was to change it over. Also cleaned the drainage holes out which were blocked solid.
Next job ticked off the list.
Scabby bumper removed, and replacement fitted. I like the way it looks with the number plate plinth on it, much better than just screwed directly to the bumper.

Any progress Craig? Ain’t seen you for ages![]()
Hi there Mart
Only change at the moment has been selling the red one on.
Silver one might be on it’s way too. I’m finding I’m missing having a Land Rover too much, so it might be helping to fund another. ![]()
How about you. Have you had much chance to get out in yours?
Shame you are getting rid, thought you had got oily landies out of your system
Give Steve a shout as he may be looking for a MX5 drifter![]()
So did I, but it appears not ![]()
Bookend Steve? I never had him down as the drifter type
