Hi all,
I’m Paul from near Nottingham, retired and enjoying every minute of it.
My MX5 is a 2005 Icon 1.8, in mica black, I’ve owned the car from new (I say owned - its actually registered in Mrs Boo’s name).
We used the car for a run around and commute to and from work, but after a long hard think, I made the decision to keep it for the long term.
I decided to refurb the car and get it up to a standard I could be happy with, the rear arches and chassis rails where renewed by the MX5 restorer a couple of years ago, all disc, pads and callipers have be replaced along with brake pipes, and complete ss exhaust fitted.
Next items to replace are the radiator, clutch slave cylinder and pipe and replace the fog lights with LED DRL’s
Welcome along , enjoy the club
Once you start the list gets longer but rewarding welcome to the club
Remarkable to have owned such an old car from new. What’s the mileage now?
As you say it was just something used as a runaround. Now you find it being seen in much more exalted terms (best thing since sliced bread on here)
You have only posted once but are already my most interesting member👍
Welcome to the club and hope you are enjoying your requirement.
Hi Beryl
the milage is 49600ish, it doesn’t come out of the garage much these days
Welcome to the club, great to see another NBFL in such fine fettle, way better than my Madge recently given a comprehensive refurb at MX5 Restorations at Ilkeston, and an original owner !
I am the sixth custodian of Madge with over 130k miles on the clock half of them mine in six years and like you having spent a shed load getting her back to close to show room handling looking at the next long list of electrical gubbins to tackle.
Met up with the the MX5 Enthusiasts Derbyshire members a couple of times they are a good bunch, worth getting in touch with if you are looking for MX5 company. I am based in London so do not get up that way often enough, but hope to do a tour with some of the members in April.
Either way Happy New Year wishing you many smiles per mile.
Welcome King and Mrs Boo [surely it should be Queen Boo ??]
From NB 2005 1.8 Icon in Orange [second owner from March 2007…first being a car lease company]. Mileage approx 46,800 ish
Newcastle-under-Lyme, STAFFS

Also ‘renovate & restore’
Keep long term
As a member you might want to consider the Club link to Peter James Insurance [I’m a widow so only driver and they don’t do No Claims Discount but my girl was insured under their ‘Classic Car’ Scheme even though like yours she’s only 19.5 years old. Paid £179.38 in November for Fully Comp
But…the most important thing for such a beauty of a loved NB is what’s her/his name
‘It’
Thanks for the welcome,
I didn’t know there was a MX5 Restorer in Ilkeston, its only 6 or 7 miles down the road from me - I will have to check them out!
Thanks for the welcome,
Not many Icons around, the orange is a fantastic colour
Sorry if I gave the impression I had just retired, it was 2018 for me
Thanks for the tip regarding insurance, only renewed in October, but something to look at this coming October
The name is money pit
MX5 Restorations, in Ilkeston, will soon be rebranding to avoid confusion with MX5 Restorer in Pevensey
‘Money Pit’…oh so true …many posters will empathize
Apart from BRG…Black has been my choice colour of vehicles [e.g. Escort Mark IV, Renault Clio] when afforded an option so when I got Bullit me brain had to adapt but wouldn’t swap her now
Delighted to hear of another NB 2.5 1.8 Icon owner committed to ‘long term’
Still far cheaper than a new ND and NC’s
