A couple of weeks ago I was told by my boss to travel back over to Nashville (been over at least six times so far) to complete an upgrade on an application which I work on as part of my day job, this got me searching the net to see if there were any stores near my office which I could buy the odd little gift to take home for my little MK1. To my surprise good old Goggle came up with “Music City Miata Club”, so I thought I would drop a couple of emails to three of the main contacts to see if I could meet up and chat over lunch about their great sounding club.
I landed in Nashville on the last Friday (28th Jan) and found that I had received a email from a chap called “Gray Sands” he wrote “how bout lunch on either Thursday or Friday, say around 11:30 AM. Our Club V.P. David Williams, would like to join us and meet you also. Just let me know where you wish to meet or where we can pick you up and we’ll find some place to chow down”. So I quickly replied with a virtual thumbs up and a recommendation on a local dinner near by.
Friday morning came around far too soon and at 11:30 AM I went outside (into the freezing -9c weather) to be confronted by two lovely MK2’s (Red & Black), Gray and two other guys got out and introduced themselves (Gray - Dave Williams (VP) - Steve Wright (President), after a brief chat I was offered to ride with Gray in his spotless black MK2 the ten or so minutes to the location of our lunch meeting.
We sat down and started to brief the guys about the MX5OC and the Eastern Region (events in the past and future) and how we love our little MX5’s as much as most people in the world. We got talking about a trip which is a regular road trip for up to 30 local Miata’s which travel about 3 hours due North to a patch of road called “The Dragon” this road with 318 curves in 11 miles, is America’s number one sports car road. The nearby CHEROHALA SKYWAY is quickly becoming number two with its remote 60 miles of scenic mountain highway. The area also has other incredible roads like the MOONSHINER 28, DEVILS TRIANGLE, THE DIAMONDBACK, SIX GAP NORTH GEORGIA, THE SNAKE and GREAT FOREST, just the names made me want to forget work that afternoon and head for the open interstate.
After a great lunch and exchanging “Eastern Region & MX5OC” stickers it was time to say farewell to my newly adopted Miata club and head back to the office with two round magnetic “MCMC of Tennessee” stickers clutched to my chest and a very big grin on my face (who sead you should only do work things on business trips).
I would like to thank Gray, David, and Steve for a great lunch and finding time to meet up for what has now become a close relationship between the UK and our folks in the US who are more then welcome to come over and visit us any time.
I have agreed to send over photos of all the events I attend this year, in return they are going to send photos and updates all their events (from the sounds of the events most are in a warmer climate than ours). I’m sure I will be asked to go over to Nashville again soon but this time I will have my weekend all planned out (Riding the Dragon with the roof down) … ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD !!!
