Hidden Cigarette Lighter Socket in the new 2016 MX5

Hi guys,

just wanted to mention the hidden cigarette lighter socket in the new 2016 MX’5s…

Number 1.  Why hide it ?

Number 2.  At least tell the dealerships where it is so they can pass the info on to the customer whose forking out £20k plus

Number 3.  A massive thanks to my new buddie Steve (The Wasp) for sharing the info as to where its hidden or I would still be pulling my hair out after trailing all over the North West trying to find a solution as to why my in car camera wouldn’t work.

Finally… Number 4. The cigarette lighter socket for those of us that didn’t know including Perrys Mazda in Blackburn… The socket is hidden under the passenger side foot well right at the very back and if this post helps only one person it was worth posting it.

Cheers, Andy H.

I know this sound boring, but it proves a point.  Before asking basic questions why don’t people read their owner’s manual, that’s what it’s for, believe it or not!  In this case - Index - A - first item - Accessory Socket = Section 5-31, quite simple and effective, saves a lot of time and trouble and embarrassment ?

Why is it out of sight?  As an anti-smoking ploy?  No lighter plug, not with mine anyway!  Or. more probable, if you are using it to power dashcams etc it’s out of the way of prying eyes and you’re half way to hiding the wiring as I’ve done!

Hey thanks for the cocky answer but when you’re suffering from dyslexia ya don’t read the manual as per norm you ask the dealership who didn’t know where it was… As for it being out of the way of prying eyes ? how can ya use a dash cam if its hidden ?

The whole idea of making the post was to help others that might have the same problem in not knowing about it and not for someone to get off their high chair and mouth about it… Cheers anyway countryboy

How come you can type in plain english, but can’t read it? Or are you one of those ‘with it’ guys who never read manuals?
Countryboy’s post was pointing out the obvious , but if you didn’t like it - why thank him? - or is that meant to be sarcasm?

Good to know I’m not the only one having a strange day…??

I can’t understand why any car manufacturer would place a power socket - cigarette lighter (!) or USB - in the footwell; it’s not going to last long…

If you’re saying that you suffer from dyslexia, then you are pretty remarkable because your first post was about as literate as it could be, and you can read the forum posts, but not your handbook!  I have worked with people with REAL dyslexia and to be honest your post would have been beyond their capabilities!  It’s funny how you manage to switch from a very literate way of writing to form of “yobbish” to hide your basic ineptitude and lack of initiative in the first instance!  As for hiding the dashcam, don’t be stupid, I said the wiring.

Actually it doesn’t seem to get in the way of passengers’ feet as it’s not at the back but on the side reasonably high up.

I need a fag

?? wife needs a fag too Ali…all that typing on here has worn her out LOL…

It’s not hidden, if the dealership can’t work out where it is then they’re incompetent, sadly not unusual.

Leave off the Saturday night aggro around dyslexia too folks, there are many and various forms and this is not the place to berate people about whom you know fuck all.

Andy.

If you do suffer from a form of dyslexia then I apologise without reservation!

Roger.

Is it really a cigarette lighter, (ie a plug in which glows hot)?

Or is it an accessory socket???

It’s an accessory socket, according to the owner’s manual, it has a hinged cover and it doesn’t come with a lighter plug.

One of these, or similar, will make it much more useful…

Would 1amp be enough to power a sat nav / camera?

Surely that would be dependent on the satnav/dashcam, it should be listed in its spec… The accessory socket is 12v DC, 120 watts and max 10amp
