Hire, new or second hand crash helmet?

Japfest is this Sunday on the National Circuit at Silverstone, so you will be using the National paddock and pit lane.
The National circuit is essentially 4 right hand turn and one left. The only gravel trap that has the potential to bother you is on the outside of Luffield.
It is a GP circuit, or part of it. It is designed for cars capable of reaching 200mph within the confines of what are, in road terms, pretty short straights. There is lots of run off.
You could go absolutely flat out into Copse and while you would not stay within the white lines of the circuit, providing you were actually attempting to take the corner you would still find enough tarmac so that you were not in danger. The biggest risk you will face would be getting Woodcote wrong in the wet, but it is going to be dry and I doubt you would turn your stability control off.
I really would not get too stressed about it. If you are going to get into a situation where you are worrying about the ultimate protection a crash helmet is going to provide, while driving a convertible road car with all it safety features and air bags, then you probably have more to be concerned about.
On these type of days, when lots of people will be going on track for the first time, it is highly likely you will end up in a procession with other cars. Those that have done track driving or know the circuit will disappear off, and the 50 to 70% who have never been on track will be on a voyage of discovery, wondering what comes next and which way to go (It’s an 80% chance in is to the right by the way!) You will not be at maximum attack.
It will be over before you know it. And you will grin a lot afterwards.
