Tez and the boss

Sounds like you had a nice time - I’ll send you an email which makes posting images nice and simple so you can share them with us[Y]

Im off to the Loire in 2 weeks, can i have tthe link also ?

Cheers

Steve

Yip sure - it’s on my laptop, so I’ll send it off once I’m home.

I’ve very intention of uploading it (along with every other document I’ve told people I’ll upload but never have) - There is a similar document that Geoff made here - http://www.mx5oc.co.uk/forum/files/folders/6192/download.aspx, which is worth a look at, but mine makes it even easier [:P]

One of the best roads I have come across in France is the D629 from St Ferriol to Carcassonne, through Les Cammazes, and Saissac… I have never had the pleasure in an MX-5, but it was fun in a hired Megane, so in an MX-5, I imagine it would be a scream. I did have photos, but sadly my hard drive and back up drive both chose to pack in the other day - in a catastrophic way - and I have lost 6 years of photos.

Hi I go to Carcassonne very very often, well infect Ruffiac D’aud. I know the road. Im so So very sorry about your photos, I have come close a few times to loosing them, There are many many utils out there thet perhaps revover the files, please dont give up. My son is a specialist where are you? if you can send Him or me the drive im sure we can get somthing back.

I am just outside Hull… However, a good friend of mine is an expert in the field, and although he is still working on it, has thus far been unsuccessful. But thank you so much for the offer - very kind.

On a happier note - I am planning a little trip down to that neck of the woods myself possibly in July… so at last I will get a crack at that road in the MX-5.

Just returned form a couple of weeks in Antibes.

Used it as a base to explore the region (click on France 2010 then on slide show) came back up the N 75 through the Alps to Grenoble, Route Napoleon.

About two thirds of the way the road was closed and we were diverted up a mountain pass (click on video Alpine Diversion) Windows Media file.

It took us up and down two mountains, at the top of one there was a sign Beware of Avalanches and totaled about 60 miles the MX 5 was built for these roads. An Audi tried to keep up but I left it for dead at every hairpin and there were plenty of those.

Also spotted a British registered red Mk 1 in Ventimiglia and another French registered red I think Mk 2 heading east on the A 8 from Monaco towards Nice.

Great driving, great holiday can’t wait to do it all over again.

I’m off to Bilbao and into southern France in a few weeks, can’t wait. Only one problem though, I’m using my Veccy and towing a caravan.Cry

Dont forget a spare set if glasses if you wear them.

I live in Narbonne so you can ask me for nice roads there and great places to eat and sleep.

I can also advice you for areas such as La Rochelle (Atlantic coast), Clermont-Ferrand (center).

Have a nice time and as said above, do not forget your sunglasses and your hat ^<>^

I went to France again this year. We went round the grand canyon and on down to St Tropez. Wasn’t impressed with the second so moved on to Roquebrune sur Argent for the night. The intention wa sto move on through Monaco to the Stelvio pass and on through Switzerland. But got up on the Wed to find this  CryCry

bang went the holiday…
Maybe next year we can return and maybe with an MX5/Eunos…

Hi Steve can you recommend a good hotel in Carcassonne, will be staying at my mates Farm house in Coutures in the new year and fancy a drive down in the MX, been once before but only for a day and would like to stay for a couple of nights. Cheers

 Hi all,

We are hoping to drive down to the Bergerac region of France during the summer, and although we’ve travelled a fair bit throughout Europe, it’s always been in our Passat, using motorways and toll roads, at warp factor five. This time, I want to avoid all that and have a steady ‘ish’ trundle down in the 5, probably making one overnight stop, as, according to Google maps, it takes around 15 hours travelling from Zeebrugge. Does anyone have any recommendations as to the best route, and good, soft top friendly places to stay half way?

Any help would be most appreciated.

Cheers,

Trev.

 Hi Trev

I would love to help, Sam and I are going back down to Monaco at the end of July for a week and then back up to Normady first week in August. But I found that if I programe my Sat Nav for no motorways I get some realy good roads, the first night we are staying in Aranc in the middle of the french alps. So have a great time no matter what you see or do you will have fun in your 5.Big Smile

 Hi Terry & Sam,

Thanks for your reply. That’s a superb area you’re going to. We drove down to Lathuile near Annency a few years back & toured around that part of the Alps. For our first MX5 holiday, we are going to try Scotland at the end of May, but I can’t wait to get back across sur le continent.Big Smile

Have a great time yourself, and let us know how you got on.

Regards,

Trev.

Hi Trev
Sorry for the delay but I have been working away.
What I do is programme the sat nav to avoid toll roads then enjoy where it takes me.
Last year we were travelling home on a minor road somewhere in the middle of France listening to radio 4 long wave with the radio set on almost full volume to be able to hear the programme.
We stumbled across a cafe in a small village where the locals were enjoying their lunch outside beneath the veranda when we had our Allo Allo moment.
We drove around a corner and I spotted the cafe late and swerved into the car park skidding to a halt on the gravel surface which drew the attention of the locals.
Then my wife Paula pressed the wrong button to turn the radio off and energised the CD player.
As we had the roof down out blasted the Undertones Teenage Kicks.
Panicking in an attempt to silence the din I conceived only to engage full volume.
By now most of the village had turned out to see what the hell was going on.
I eventually managed to silence the CD and we embarrassingly decanted and ordered a cappuccino and a hot chocolate.
What sort of a impression of an English Tourists we left I am unsure, but the only time the cafe owner smiled was when we paid our bill and left.

Me and the boss are laughing like idiots - that so easily could have been us. What a wonderful cameo to laugh about in years to come - it’s things like this that make the trip.
