Honda CRX Del Sol

Thanks to whoever posted the link a whie ago to the 1990’s Honda Del Sol two seater with the very wacky electric roof (in the context of the new US Mk 4 MX5).

It was so unusual I had to buy one - dead cheap and un-boyracerised and no chassis rust issues - and I’ve still kept my Mk 2.5 while I can afford to run both.

I’m told another OC member also has one of each.

Different to each other, and both great fun.

Rev’s like an RX - wow! What engine size is it, yours that is.?

Hi Gerryn

They were all 1.6 - either single cam like mine @circa 125HP or twin cam at about 158HP.  High reving and the VTEC increase in power kicks in at 5.500 RPM.

A lot of people seem to soup them up, particularly in nice driving areas like Wales, Scotland and Yorkshire.

I only bought it (£1,350, 90,000 miles, FSH) because of the electric roof.  There are manual versions where you lift the roof panel off and it fits into the normal hinged boot. Similar idea to my old Fiat X1/9

Not as sharp a drive as my mark 2.5, but more usable in colder weather as you can go down the motorway at night with the roof off and get hardly any wind.

The rear window is also electric, so you can make it almost a full convertible apart from the roof support thing.

Good info - thanks Ian
