Hood Drainage Channels

Hi, My name is Val and I’m a member of Yorkshire Ridings.

Recently my April 2007 MK3 developed a water leak into the boot

The local dealer replaced the hood to body drains with the latest factory production drains. Since that time a loud noise emanates from behind the seats, predominantly on the nearside. It sounds just like a worn wheel bearing.

The rear nearside wheel bearing has been changed by the dealer but it made no difference. On a fine day with the hood down I then discovered that when the hood is down and clipped into place the noise disappears!

The local dealer has been informed of this and had the car back to recheck the work done on the hood and the drains. He reports that everything is present and correctly installed.

The noise is very obtrusive  and has only occured since the hood work and it answers to putting the hood down!

The dealer is at a loss as to what to do next.

Has anyone got any ideas or further information regarding these modified drains, and what could have been involved in their installation which could give rise to this noise?

All I want is my nice quiet MX-5 back!! Please help!!

Here’s a couple of pics of the bottom of the hood drain channels. They must have the flap at the bottom, it’s there to keep out roadnoise. Get your garage to check them out

Thanks very much-I will contact the dealer and show them the photos. Hopefully this will sort it out!
