Hood repairs

Hi
I did post on this topic previously but can anyone in the Solent Area suggest a company I can contact to repair a vandalised hood (small tear) on my Mk 3 MX5.
Thanks.
Michelle.

I’ve used this before on a small hole in my mohair roof. Also to seal the rear window where rain was getting in. Stormsure Stormsure Flexible Repair Adhesive 15g Black

Hi
Yes, I have used that but the water is still getting in. Going to try again but really need a specialist, hence my post.
Michelle.

I used ordinary Gaffer Tape when the Mohair on my Mk 2.5 was vandalised in 2019 [small tear]…guess they tried to break in and failed or were just being malicious…who knows
It kept the rain at bay whilst I thought about whether to repair or claim on insurance…eventually did the latter as I would have fretted about just doing a repair
Maybe not what you want to hear but explore options ??

Thank you. Still considering.
Michelle.

Until you do manage to get it properly repaired.
Short term - try some of this as a temporary repair.

Cant stand vandals…scum of the earth, create utter pain and misery for people and there is no consequence for them unless you can prove it.

Totally agree, especially when I believe them to be my so called neighbours.
No definitive proof sadly.
Michelle.

My problem exactly…no proof [I’ve since learnt that my ‘suspect’ - a visiting relative of a neighbour - has a ‘steel plate in his head’ after an accident or attack which probably explains his anti-social behaviour].

But as srm888 says it doesn’t really help the utter misery it caused me in 2019 and hyper-vigilance mode it put me in until I managed to secure a lock up garage for her

I only lost my Excess [£300] in 2019 for claiming on the insurance for a new Mohair & fitting and that hasn’t been a problem until for some bizarre reason this year when suddenly that vandalism was dragged out of the insurance archives in an ‘excuse’ to charge me more …I fought back and eventually ‘won’ with a reasonable price…but more stress during this process

Wishing you the best whatever you decide

Hi
So sorry to hear of your experience. There are some nasty people out there (although also some nice one’s I hasten to add)
Intend to use some of the T Rex waterproof tape over the place as suggested by another club member and hope that will keep the water out. Just cannot afford a new hood at the moment and sadly have no garage.
Hope that eventually this run of wet days will stop for a while. My biggest worry is getting the carpet behind the drivers seat dry as obviously that gives the potential for rust which is a whole new ball game,
Best wishes
Michelle.

Have you looked on ebay ?

Thanks. No I had not looked at Ebay but I have now. One you mention does not have a heated rear window which I need, others all seem to be around £500 mark. Biggest problem however is the fitting. I could not do that and do not know anyone who could, other than Hendy Mazda which would probably cost me as much as the hood.

Was so near the end of my tether in 2019 and so nearly gave up but kept fighting back and ‘thinking outside the box and my comfort zones’ and compromising and forgiving the nasties and we made it

Often ‘darkest before the dawn’

Thank you so much. It is true: Never give up, sometimes good things are just around the corner even if it seems a long way ahead.

If they can’t sort you out a repair, no one can. Been there forever, and very old school, hence no website. I believe they used to have several contracts for repairing hood/upholstery in transit damage to freshly imported new cars through Southampton Docks.

Fixed up my old and tired Honda Beat hood - re-upholstered my VR-Limited driver’s seat.

Very many thanks Steve. That’s great. I will check them out.
