Horrrid knocking sound when I turn to full lock when cold.

When I reverse out of my parking space I have to turn full lock, as I reverse the car is fine but as I move forward slowly there is a horrendous knocking sound coming from the nearside rear wheel area. As soon as I have come out of full lock the noise goes and cannot be replicated until the next morning. It sounds as though something is sticking and then being released but I haven’t got a clue as I am not mechanically minded. I have had many suggestions ranging from tracking being out to brake pads need renewing. Any ideas???

Many thanks

I had this and it was a bush worn out causing play in the top mount and lower arm - could be that?

Was it expensive to sort out?

not really - the bush itself is pennies - it’s just a rubber thing. The expensive part is the labour taking the suspension out on that corner, and refitting it. It also depends how many need replacing. You need to have a suspension person take a look to see if that is the problem.

As a guide proce, WIM replaced every top mount and the whole lower n/s suspension arm and bushes on my gf’s Ka and then completely aligned it for £400 including labour - the Ford dealership wanted £750.

I have exactly the same problem; I have to reverse on full lock to get out of my parking space and I get a knock and a judder, seemingly every wheel revolution - I think it is coming from the front left wheel area. Once I’ve moved a few meters it can be replicated until the following morning.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = “urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office” />I have left it parked overnight with the hand break off to see if it was stocking in the cold, but it made no difference

My car is booked in for its service at the end of the month, and I have asked them to look at it. I spoke to the head of service at my Mazda dealer and he did not know what this could be and “that’s an odd one.” was the phrase he used.

I will post what they find

Funny guy - it is pretty common from what I have both personally experienced in my Mk1s and read on here and the old forum!

I have exactly the same thing on My Mk1 and on a recent check bushes etc seemed fine.

I just thought it was cause it was old LOL[:P]

Mine “Knocks” on a full lock (Mk 2.5) when in going forwards!! But then I read something in the user manual that said something like it’s not unusual, just take a fraction off the lock and it goes away :S
