Hot ignition key

Hi, I did a longer journey of about 2 hours and the ignition key was hot to the touch.  Pulled in about an hour later and again the key was hot.  Any thoughts on what to look for please

Long shot but would it be short circuit in ignition causing key to be hot?

Has the car been “hot wired” at some point?

I really, really apologise for that, but it was just too good an opportunity to miss!

Seriously though, it does sound like a (worn?) wiring problem in the switch, and I hate to say it, a possible fire risk, you really should get it looked at by an electrician.  Better to be safe than sorry!

Just a stupid thought, the far right dash vent isn’t directed towards the area of the key is it? That’s what sprung to mind when I read the original post.
