How can I retro-fit a heated rear screen?

I’m getting a glass rear screen stitched into my new mohair hood after the plastic one cracked last week in the snow.

Jack smiths are going to do the work for free under warranty, I just need to send the rear panel and the glass screen to them.

My 1990 Eunos doesn’t have any loom at all for the heated screen.

What would I need to buy to retro-fit the screen? The glass screen has no loom attachments, just two bare wires.

I don’t want it to be OEM, no need for original looms or switches. I’ll just MacGuiver it all together.

So,
what grade wire, size fuse and relay would be needed, and where would I
need to pick the live feed from so it is ignition switched?

 Anyone?

Hi I have the same issue with my Mk1.  I found the following information in pdf format:

http://www.mx5hoods.co.uk/media/heated-window-checklist.pdf

St least it shows you where things normally go and details on fuses and relays.  They list the relay here:

http://www.mx5hoods.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=5

And the switch is listed both here and at MX5parts.co.uk.  Tell us how you get on and perhaps write a nice little how to article that us ham fisted types can follow!  I have heard that its common on retro fit to take a live off the cigarette lighter feed for the switch then end the output live back to the relay which powers the HRW.  Anyway good luck and look forward to hearing how you get on.  There must be many who have done the same job on an NA so please shout up!.

Thank you, the PDF is very useful.

Hi

I have purchased the relay, fuse box and switch so I you have managed to get this working please post a how to!

Cheers.

I have all of the parts too, but have only got to the testing stage. I rigged up the heated screen with an LED to find that there is a break in the heated screen wiring. I need to buy a mending kit to paint onto the screen wires where it is scratched off and make sure it all works before I fit the wiring.

Yes, I’ll do a how too no problem. Unfortuntely I have more pressing things to do with the woodruff key and head gasket/valvey bits before then :(
