The mark 4 works in two ways either as you leave the car with keys in your pocket it self locks hence wife locked in,or if you go into the various programs on the touch screen, you cam choose the other program that makes the car only lock if you press the key fob, then problem resolved,or if not leave keys with wife, unless you are worried she may drive off without you, answer be very nice to wife when leaving keys with her.
It’s the walk away lock that you have to disable from the MZD Connect system. It does mean that you’ll have to lock the car with the button on the transmitter or the request switch on the door handle when you do want to lock the car though.
Sounds good to me. I’m pleased Mazda gives us the choice.
The Walk-away locking is the worst security (lack-of) system put on a modern car. If it can be disabled so the button push on the key is the only way to unlock the car (as in the past) then it makes it a lot more difficult to steal.
Call me old fashioned, but I would never buy a car where walk-away locking was the only system to lock the car. Nor one with an electric “parking brake” nightmare (BMW dealer suggested that my wife’s friend further up the hill should put a wedge under a wheel or turn it into the kerb to stop her auto everything BMW slowly rolling away during the night).
