How do our cars/motorbikes define us as petrol heads?

Never messed on Imps but minis a plenty. Cylinder heads off regularly for the good old decoke.

The fun part with the Imp were the rocker shims.

Bike history Honda CB100 1978ish then a big gap until Cagiva Canyon. Then various Honda Hornets, Yamaha Fazers, BMW 650s and onto Kawasaki Versys, ER6f and then Suzuki VStrom

I passed my driving test in my dad’s Imp in 1976.

I’d like an Imp but I’d like a Ginetta too. I can realistically have three cars at most. And three is what I have. Bah I need to be a poor mans Jay Leno.

Great idea for a post, I have been looking for an opportunity to share my car history. Which starts off with an Imp

It’s a bit difficult to remember all of them in any kind of order (approaching 50 yrs worth) but here goes…
BSA C12
Fiat 600d
Mini Traveller
Hillman Imp (3 in all including 1 with engine bored out to 915cc breathing through an SU carb)
mk1 cortina
Hillman Avenger
Honda cd175
Chevette estate
mk1 Astra estate
Cavalier GLi
Astra Lxi estate
Rover 214 turbodiesel
Manta 1.8 (eventually turned into a trackday toy with the addition of a vauxhall redtop engine, and lowered suspension with Bilstein shocks)
3 Passat estates
Mazda6 sport nav estate
Mx5 nc 2.0 (about 5 weeks ago)

Had plenty of practice in them. Eventually got to the point where the engine could be extracted in 45 mins single-handed.

Once did a clutch on an Imp, seem to recall that a scissor jack and a skateboard were employed to get the engine out…
