How loud are your rear speakers?

Hi, When I adjust the fade balance on my Mk3, the speakers at the rear inbetween the seats are pretty quiet even at full adjust to them and  weedy compared with the really loud volume capable with all the other speakers.  Asked the garage to look nat at yesterday’s second service and they said that is normal -is it?  If so what’s the point of them if they are so quiet?

Regards, Ian

I find they provide ‘filler’ sound rather than overt noise. I experimented with a few balance/fade different settings and find 0/0 the best option. I have the Bose system which I think is OK with the top up but with the top down is to borrow an over used phrase ‘awesome’. Not sure why there should be such a difference.

Thanks for that info, I notice trawling through other sites that lack of rear speaker volume is a reoccuring theme so I guess I’ll have to live with it!

I have just replaced the front speakers in my 3.5 with JVC from MX5parts.  Huge improvement.  I am now wondering why they bothered with the rear speakers??  I am wondering about upgraded rear speakers with a small amplifier in the cubby box between them.  It would have to feed both with a centre channel, by mixing R+L, as the RH speaker is by the driver’s LH ear, and vice versa for passenger!

Has anybody tried this or similar?

I also have the Bose system and you’re right, it sounds better with the top down than with it up Confused

Since I first posted that I have changed out the door speakers for Clearwaters which makes a big difference.

You could also disable the switch at the front of the hood which switches between sound stages for hood up and down.
