How rare are Black NB2 1.8 SVT's?

I’ve been looking for a black NB2 SVT for the last however long and am yet to find one, so I thought I would ask you fine people how often they pop up for sale?

I saw a couple last year when I initially caught the NB bug but now I’m looking to pick one up I can’t seem to find any.

I think you may have answered your own question.

In all my 20 plus years of OC membership and activity I can’t recall any member having an NB facelift in black, and given the rate of scrappage of said model they are now all becoming scarce! The search for such as car in decent nick in any colour I fear is going to be a challenge, but good luck with it, its still the best one… :upside_down_face:

You could look for a Trilogy, that was black NB2 with the 1.8 svt engine etc

I will keep an eye out for one, thanks for the tip!

@martin I had a feeling they might be quite scarce, I think I’ve only ever seen one or two for sale and that was a year or two ago.

More on the Trilogy here :- Roadster.Blog: Mazda MX-5 Trilogy

Aside the engine I am not sure how much S-VT Sport there is in it, comes with 5 speed instead of six, 15’’ inch wheels instead of 16’’, no mention of LSD or Bilsteins, though turns out not all S-VT’s had Bilsteins which in orginal S-VT form are irreplaceable anyway. Good luck in your search unfortunately if you find one you will not be spoiled for choice so might be worth considering either snapping one up as soon as or preparing for a dreadfully long wait. Like Martin aside from Trilogy I do not recall seeing a black S-VT, closest would be a 2004 ish Black Cherry Mica.

That’s a shame, the 6 speed would be ideal for me I have to say. I guess I’ll have to be patient or lucky, probably both! Really my main concern is 6 speed, 1.8 so I might have to be open to some other colours  Really appreciate the information though, Black Cherry Mica also looks great.

Titanium Grey is worth a look, that was a nice colour back then.

The Euphonic edition (2004) also came in Black but very few of them.

Well remembered, sadly although the 1.8 Euphonic had LSD, big brakes and extra chassis bracing it was also fitted with a 5 speed as standard. Not such a difficult thing to upgrade to a six speed I believe and it had a fancy Sony hifi :+1:

I have a 2004 Vehicle Specification supplement that was included with the 2004 MX-5 brochure and Black is/was listed as a colour. Choices (UK market anyway) in 2004 included Brilliant Black (A3F), so there should be some out there. One of only two solid colours listed, the other being Eternal Red. It’s also listed as available for all three models (1.6, 1.8, 1.8 Sport).
