How the heck do I remove the (manual) window winder?

My first question and it’s a really dumb one. How on earth do I remove the manual window winder handle so I can remove the door card and see why the winder is so stiff?

There has to be a simple way, but I’m blowed if I can find it!

The window handle is secured on it’s shaft by a spring clip, and the easiest removal method is to loop a strip of rag around the base of the handle, pulling the loop of rag so that it is forced between the handle and its base. Further pressure on the loop will displace the clip and the handle can be pulled off.

You really should invest in a Rod Graingers manual, they are worth their weight in gold, and you will pay for it on one service you do yourself.

Polyanna - thank you very much indeed. No wonder I was struggling, and yes, I will get that manual right away.
