How to adjust the bonnet latch in an MX5 NC?

Anyone know of a guide or workshop manual how to how to adjust the bonnet latch in an MX5 NC to prevent the hood from rattling? I still have the rubber stops on each side (so that’s not it) and I noticed it rattling last weekend on a trackday.

Most rubber bonnet stops are threaded.
If these are, just unwind them a little until the rattle stops
(Anticlockwise)

thanks will give that a go tomorrow.

IIRC the latch is just on 10mm studs ,
Mark its initial position, slightly undo the 10mm’s , tap the latch down until you see it move couple of mm , retighten and try bonnet ( repeat as necessary)

thanks will also give that a go tomorrow

Any joy??

Sunday was first snowing then pissing down all day so didn’t get to it. And I’m working this week so probably in the holidays I will give it a go. but at least I have two avenues to explore. Will update this thread once I get round to it. Thanks all again.

The latch itself is on easy to access bolts but chances are you just need to adjust the rubber stoppers. Did mine a few months back

well. its was warm enough and after postponing its for a while I got a 10mm spanner and thought Its time to adjust the bonnet latch. The height adjustment is effectively made by the two machine screws that hold the bonnet latch mechanism and there is some vertical adjustment to be made however…
The noise I was hearing was effectively the play/vertical movement of the latch within the latching mechanism. I think I will solve that with a very thin layer of electrical tape on the latch and replace as needed.

Another thing to be careful is that if you have adjusted the mechanism do make sure the latch is working and engaging properly otherwise a bonnet and windscreen replacement can be very costly…

I asked the same question a short time ago and I ended up adjusting the rubber bump stop things at either side instead of the latch. Sorted the rattling bonnet.

I did look at those and in my nc they have a moulded leg that fits in a hole/slot on a thin flat part of the bodywork. No screw underneath that

Mine just screwed in and out…you twist the rubber. clockwise to lower and anti clockwise to heighten from memory

What generation is yours?

Hi Robbie,

Mine is a 2011 Picture of the rubber :bonnet close bumpers " below. You’ll se the 17mm (i think) socket head on top.

ok… that’s slightly embarrassing because I didn’t realise you could separate that into two parts

As long as you manage to get the job done. Whole point of forums like this.
